Hiero SDKs are language-specific libraries for building applications that interact with Hiero-based networks. The official repositories surfaced here document JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, and Rust, but they are examples—not a complete inventory of the current SDK ecosystem. Choose the SDK that matches your application’s language and runtime, then follow that repository’s current quickstart for installation and testing.
What a Hiero SDK does
An SDK provides a software interface for working with a network from an application written in a particular language. For example, the JavaScript repository describes its project as “The JavaScript SDK for interacting with a Hiero based network.” Hiero is open-source, vendor-neutral distributed ledger technology used to build the Hedera public ledger; see the Hiero documentation repository for project context.

Choose by language and target
These four official repositories offer different starting points. They do not establish the full set of available Hiero SDKs.
| Language | Target and setup | Testing considerations |
|---|---|---|
| JavaScript/TypeScript | Install @hiero-ledger/sdk with npm, Yarn, or pnpm. The repository documents browser use and Node.js/package-manager development. Check its current compatibility notes for your runtime; React Native Bare is not currently supported, and Expo has limitations for older versions. |
Unit tests do not require a local network; integration tests do. Repository guidance recommends Node.js v20 or higher for best performance and compatibility; it says the package may work with Node.js v16, which has not been officially tested. |
| Java | Use the Java quickstart for JVM applications or the separate Android quickstart for Android applications. | The repository links developer setup, unit and integration tests, and network configuration guidance. |
| Go | The repository documents installation with go get github.com/hiero-ledger/hiero-sdk-go/v2@latest. |
Examples and integration tests require Hiero network credentials. |
| Rust | The repository lists Rust, protoc, and OpenSSL requirements. | Consult its API documentation and test guidance for the current setup. |
Install and start with the official quickstart
JavaScript and TypeScript
Follow the JavaScript SDK repository for package installation and its current quickstart. Confirm the runtime and framework compatibility notes before integrating the package, especially if you are targeting React Native or an older Expo setup.
Java and Android
Choose the appropriate quickstart in the Java SDK repository: the Java path for JVM applications or the Android path for Android apps. The repository also provides developer setup and test guidance.
Go
Use the Go SDK repository for its current installation instructions. Its README gives this dependency command:
Rank #2
go get github.com/hiero-ledger/hiero-sdk-go/v2@latest
Rust
Check the Rust SDK repository for current setup instructions, including the Rust toolchain and its protoc and OpenSSL dependencies, then follow its API documentation and test guidance.

Testing requirements depend on the SDK and the workflow. A unit test may run without a network, while examples or integration tests can require credentials or a local network. Check the relevant repository before running them: the JavaScript SDK separates network-independent unit tests from integration tests that need a local network; the Go README says examples and integration tests need Hiero network credentials; and the Java repository includes network configuration guidance.
Using a local network for JavaScript integration tests
The JavaScript repository describes Solo as an official Kubernetes-based local-network option for development and integration testing. It is an optional testing environment, not a requirement for every application or SDK user. Its Solo guidance lists macOS and Linux as supported platforms and directs Windows users to WSL2; it also gives memory guidance for single- and dual-node setups. Check the Solo repository for current platform and resource requirements before setting it up.

Repository instructions, package versions, and compatibility details can change. Use the official repository for your chosen language as the source of truth for installation, supported runtimes, credentials, and test setup. For other language options, consult the Hiero Ledger organization and its documentation rather than treating the four examples above as an exhaustive list.
