Google’s published examples include Pixel VIPs on Pixel 6 and newer, Recorder’s Clear voice on Pixel 8 and newer, and Magnifier live search on Pixel 5 and newer, with device exclusions for the last feature.
To check your own phone, match the exact model to the feature’s eligibility notes, then check software, location, language, hardware and rollout conditions. A phone receiving Android updates is not automatically eligible for every new Pixel feature.

Which Pixel features are available on older phones?
Google’s announcements show that some features reach several generations, while others require newer models or specific hardware. These examples are not a complete compatibility list; check the announcement or help page for the particular feature you want.

Why one older Pixel may get a feature and another may not
“Older Pixel” covers a wide range of models. A feature may be available on a particular generation but not earlier ones, or may require hardware that only some models have. Some features also depend on software version, country, language, carrier, account or a companion device. Google notes that availability can vary by model and that updates may roll out gradually.
- Model: Check the exact model, not just the Pixel generation. A Pro or A-series device may have different eligibility from a similarly numbered phone.
- Software: Confirm any required Android version or update. A feature announcement may set software prerequisites in addition to a model threshold.
- Location and language: Some features are limited to selected countries or languages.
- Hardware and setup: A feature may rely on a specific sensor, camera capability, compatible app, account or accessory.
- Rollout: An eligible phone may not receive a feature immediately; availability can depend on device and carrier rollout timing.
Google’s June 2026 announcement and September 2026 Pixel Drop summary describe recent releases, but Google does not publish one exhaustive matrix covering every feature and every Pixel model. Treat each feature’s own eligibility notes as the deciding source.

How to check whether your Pixel is eligible
- Identify the exact phone model. Open Settings → About phone and note the model name. Include whether it is a Pro, A-series or foldable device.
- Find the feature’s eligibility statement. Check Google’s announcement or support page for the named feature and its minimum model. Look for exclusions as well as eligible devices.
- Check other requirements. Confirm the required Android version, country, language, carrier, hardware and any app, account or accessory conditions.
- Check for an available update. Open Settings → System → Software update. Google says updates can roll out gradually and may depend on carrier and device.
- Recheck the feature’s own page if it still is not available. Eligibility does not guarantee that a rollout has reached every supported device at the same time.
Feature eligibility is different from software support
Google’s update policy says Pixel 8 and later phones receive seven years of updates, while Pixel 6 and Pixel 7-generation phones—including Pixel Fold—receive five years. Those periods start when each device first became available on the Google Store in the US. The applicable support period includes operating-system and security updates and may include new or upgraded features through Pixel Drops.
Pixel 5a and earlier no longer receive Android version or security updates, according to Google’s Pixel software update policy. That policy is about update support; it does not establish that every feature released during a phone’s support period works on it. Google’s wording is that a Pixel will “generally receive Pixel Drops during the applicable Android update and support periods for the phone.”
