Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your agency is considering a Float alternative, start with the gap in your workflow: scheduling people across projects, forecasting future capacity, or tying staffing plans to project economics. Runn, Resource Guru, SAVIOM, ClickUp, Smartsheet, monday.com, and Parallax appear in current comparison material as candidates to investigate—not as a verified ranking. The right choice depends on how well a tool handles your agency’s actual schedules, availability rules, forecasts, reporting, and financial visibility.
What should a Float alternative help your agency do?
Resource scheduling and capacity planning are related but distinct. Scheduling answers who is assigned to which work and when; capacity planning asks whether people have room for additional work, and what future demand may mean for staffing. Float brings both into one Schedule, according to its product documentation.

Float describes its live Schedule as combining people, projects, allocations, availability, and time off. The company says the view can show utilization, remaining capacity, and overtime, and help managers identify under-utilization, workload imbalances, future hiring needs, and over-capacity risks. These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent test findings. See Float’s product overview and its capacity-planning and resource-scheduling documentation.
Float says available capacity is calculated using standard working hours and days, approved time off, public holidays, and existing project allocations. That matters because utilization figures are only as useful as the availability inputs behind them. A tool that handles your agency’s working patterns and leave poorly may produce a neat dashboard but a misleading staffing picture.

Recent vendor and comparison-publisher materials name the products below as Float alternatives or agency resource-planning options. Sources for this candidate list include Float’s comparison of resource-management tools, SAVIOM’s Float-alternatives comparison, and Parallax’s agency resource-planning comparison. How do you choose based on the problem you need to solve?
If the main problem is assigning people across active projects
Focus on schedule usability, flexible allocations, and how quickly a manager can adjust work when priorities change. Float says its scheduling supports allocations by hours or percentages, drag-and-drop changes, and indicators for utilization, time off, workload, and over-capacity. Use these as comparison prompts rather than assuming alternatives work the same way; Float documents them on its resource-scheduling page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Can managers see assignments and availability together?
- Can allocations reflect part-time schedules and changing project demand?
- How visible are conflicts or over-capacity conditions?
- How much effort does it take to move work when a project changes?
If the main problem is knowing who is genuinely available
Check how the product represents standard work patterns, approved leave, public holidays, and existing allocations. Float documents configurable working days and hours, time-off policies and approval workflows, regional holidays, and tags such as roles, rate cards, skills, seniority, and location. Confirm which of these matter to your agency, how each candidate supports them, and whether support depends on configuration or plan tier.

- Fight Ink-bleeding & Great Size: The high-end 100gsm paper could prevent ink bleeding through or feathering, handle double-sided writing and most daily use pens pretty well. The office/business work notebook measures 7.5"x 10"(similar to B5 size), Generous size provides ample space to jot down your meeting notes.
- Each 160 Pages Per Book: Provide ample space for note taking & planning and with the date section at the top for tracking them. With 160 pages for meeting minutes, the manager notebook will cover more than half a year, even in daily use. Also provides index pages for organizing this office planner.
- Better Tool Drives Better Meetings: The hassle of organizing the chaotic meeting notes VS this professional meeting notebook. Definitely a step up! Everything is neatly zoned on each page makes it a breeze to fill them out and ensure all you need are accounted for.
Run a realistic test with a part-time employee, an upcoming holiday, approved leave, and overlapping project assignments. Then check whether the person’s displayed availability changes as expected. A simple availability total is not enough if the assumptions behind it do not match how your team works.
If the main problem is future demand and hiring decisions
Look for demand forecasting, utilization projections, scenario planning, skill matching, and visibility into hiring gaps. Ask whether tentative or unconfirmed work can be represented separately from committed projects, and whether managers can compare staffing scenarios without overwriting the live schedule. The comparison sources identify forecasting as an agency planning concern, but they do not establish equivalent capabilities across all candidates.

If leadership needs to connect staffing to project economics
Check whether planned work can be compared with time actuals, project budgets, rates, costs, and margins. Resource allocation alone does not show whether a project is commercially healthy. If this connection matters, test the path from a staffing decision to the financial view leadership uses, including any required integrations and plan limitations.

- Choose a realistic planning scenario. Include concurrent projects, different allocation levels, a part-time schedule, leave, a holiday, and at least one uncertain or future demand item if those occur in your work.
- Ask a manager to reschedule work. Record how quickly they can see the consequences of moving an allocation and whether conflicts are clear.
- Check availability calculations. Verify that working patterns, approved time off, holidays, and current assignments affect remaining capacity as your agency expects.
- Inspect future-planning views. Determine how the product represents projected workload, tentative demand, utilization, and staffing gaps.
- Trace staffing into project economics. If budgets or margins matter, see whether plans connect to actual time, rates, costs, and financial reporting.
- Confirm operational fit and cost. Check integrations, required plan tiers, user or seat assumptions, and total cost for the team and workflow you intend to use.
Record the same observations for each candidate. This makes trade-offs visible: one tool may be easier for day-to-day scheduling, while another may better fit forecasting or financial oversight. The cited materials do not provide a basis for declaring one of these options best for every agency.
What does Float itself offer as a baseline?
Float describes itself as resource-management software for delivery teams. Its official homepage says it serves “4,500+ professional-services firms and in-house delivery teams”; that is Float’s own customer figure, not an independently verified count. The homepage also hosts a testimonial attributed to Andrew Barden, Senior Director of Delivery Operations, praising Float’s role in understanding availability across a studio. That is a vendor-hosted customer testimonial, not independent evidence.
For an agency comparing alternatives, Float’s documented feature set provides a useful baseline: a combined schedule and capacity view, allocations by hours or percentages, configurable work patterns and time-off policies, regional holidays, and resource tags. Review the current details in Float’s capacity-planning overview, scheduling overview, and help documentation dated April 22, 2026.
