SlashGear’s September 2026 comparison identified five flashlight brands with some Amazon listings rated above the Maglite listings it reviewed: Streamlight, Olight, EverBrite, Pelican, and ThruNite. Those are customer-rating snapshots, not proof that every light from these brands outperforms every Maglite—or that the lights were compared in controlled tests.
What “better ratings” means here
SlashGear said it compared average customer-review scores in Amazon search results and looked for brands with at least some models rated higher than the Maglite listings it examined. It reported Maglite products in a 4.5–4.7-star range during its September 2026 publication period. Those figures are a dated snapshot; Amazon ratings and review counts can change.

A star average can help narrow a search, but it does not tell you how bright a light is, how far its beam reaches, how long it runs, or whether it suits your task. 1Lumen’s review-based overview likewise cautions against choosing by brand alone: performance varies between models within a brand. Five brands to consider
Streamlight: traditional handheld designs
SlashGear reported that five of the seven top Amazon listings it saw were Streamlight models, including the Stinger LED, Stinger LED HL, and Strion LED. Their tubular handheld form may suit someone looking for a conventional flashlight rather than a keychain or right-angle work light. The article describes Streamlight as serving emergency-services, military, and automotive users, and notes a limited lifetime warranty subject to exclusions. Check the warranty terms for the specific model before relying on coverage.

Olight: compact lights for everyday carry
For smaller lights intended to be carried regularly, SlashGear named the I1R 2 Pro keychain light, Baton 4, and ArkPro. Its cited ratings, including 4.8-star examples, reflect the article’s publication-period Amazon observations, not current listing scores.
EverBrite: budget and household options
SlashGear presented EverBrite as a budget-oriented option with multipacks and household lights. It also named the 900 Lumen Tactical Flashlight, a larger C-cell model. Prices and review ratings cited in that article are historical publication-period claims, not current offers or verified specifications for every variant.

Pelican: emergency and task-light formats
The comparison named Pelican’s 33110PL Emergency LED and 3410 Right Angle LED, as well as penlight-style models. These formats offer alternatives to a standard straight handheld light: a right-angle design may be useful for close work, while a penlight is easier to fit in a pocket. Match the shape to where and how you expect to use it.

ThruNite: compare the individual model
ThruNite’s ratings varied substantially across the lineup in SlashGear’s account: some models were in the 4.6–4.9-star range, while others scored in the 3s. The article highlighted the compact Archer Mini and T9 Mini as highly rated examples and noted that The New York Times’ 2026 flashlight list recommended several ThruNite models. The spread is a reason to check the exact model’s current reviews rather than assume the whole brand has one rating.

Compare specifications before choosing
For a useful shortlist, compare the exact light you are considering against your needs—not only its star average. Check:
- Form and use: Decide whether you need a pocket light, keychain light, full-size handheld, penlight, or right-angle work light.
- Output and beam distance: Lumens describe light output; beam distance helps indicate how far the beam reaches. Neither alone describes how useful the beam will be for your task.
- Power: Confirm battery type, whether the battery is rechargeable, how it charges, and the stated runtime at the output level you expect to use.
- Weather and impact protection: Check the exact model’s water-resistance rating and durability information. Do not assume a rating applies to every light from the same brand.
- Warranty and value: Read the warranty exclusions and compare the full cost of the light and its power source with the features you will use.
T3’s 2026 guide offers a model-specific illustration of why specifications matter: it names the Olight Seeker 4 Pro its best overall torch and reports 4,600 lumens, IPX8 water resistance, and a 260-metre beam range. In the same guide, the Maglite MAG-TAC is listed at 671 lumens and IPX4. How to use the ratings when shopping
- Choose the form factor first. Decide where you will carry or use the light; this quickly rules out models that do not fit the job.
- Check the exact model and variant. A brand can sell products with very different designs and ratings, and a product name may cover different configurations.
- Read recent reviews alongside the average. Look for recurring comments relevant to your use, such as battery life, charging, or durability, rather than treating the star score as a performance test.
- Verify current listing details. Confirm the live rating, review count, price, included battery, and availability on the listing you intend to buy; SlashGear’s figures describe its 2026 observation, not today’s listing.
