Before traveling with Fizz, check that your destination is included in your plan or covered by an available Travel add-on or wallet pay-per-use option. Then enable mobile data—and, when needed, data roaming—on your phone. For calls in parts of the United States that have LTE-only service, check VoLTE compatibility and activation too. Turning on roaming does not add coverage or purchase travel service.
1. Check whether your Fizz plan covers the destination
Fizz says your plan’s coverage area determines where calls, texts, and mobile data are included. Provincial coverage, Canada coverage, and Canada + U.S. coverage are distinct choices; a phone setting cannot extend one plan’s coverage area. Check the destination and your plan details in My Account before you leave. Fizz coverage information

If you need broader plan coverage, account for the timing: Fizz says a coverage change takes effect at the start of your next payment cycle. That may suit a planned trip if you arrange it in advance, but it is not an immediate fix once you are traveling.

For a destination outside your plan’s coverage, check My Account for current Travel add-ons and wallet pay-per-use availability. Offers, rates, and eligible services depend on the destination, so there is no universal price or country list to rely on. Fizz describes voice add-ons for selected countries outside Canada and the United States; do not assume calls are included everywhere. Fizz travel options

Fizz says a Canada + U.S. plan includes plan data and unlimited calls and texts in both countries, subject to the plan’s terms. Confirm the current details in your account rather than assuming a different plan includes U.S. service. Fizz U.S. coverage and plan details
3. Turn on mobile data and, if needed, data roaming
If you want to use Fizz mobile internet, make sure mobile or cellular data is enabled. Outside your selected coverage zone, data roaming may also need to be enabled for the phone to use an available partner network. These settings allow the phone to connect; they do not add plan coverage or buy a Travel add-on. Check your account’s destination-specific service and rates before enabling roaming.

Menu names and paths can vary by phone model and software version. If you cannot find the setting, search Settings for “roaming” or “mobile data.” Fizz’s phone-abroad guidance gives these example paths.

U.S. calls are not guaranteed just because roaming is enabled. Fizz says calling depends on the network available where you are. Where only LTE is available, Fizz requires a VoLTE-compatible SIM and a phone certified by Fizz for VoLTE, with VoLTE activated. Check the phone’s software is current as well. Fizz also says roaming-data permission is required for these VoLTE calls outside Quebec, and that the data use specifically needed for those calls is not billed. This statement applies to the data permission used for VoLTE calls in that context; it is not a promise that ordinary roaming data is free. See Fizz’s VoLTE FAQ.
5. Do these account checks before departure
- Open My Account and check your destination. Confirm whether your existing coverage includes it and which services—data, text, or voice—are available.
- Compare the available options against your trip dates. A coverage change begins with the next payment cycle; a Travel add-on activates immediately and lasts until the end of the next payment cycle. Check the add-on’s amount and expiry.
- Check country-specific availability and rates. Use the signed-in travel area for current Travel add-ons or wallet pay-per-use options. Voice add-ons are described for selected countries, not as a worldwide calling entitlement.
- If you will need voicemail outside Canada and the United States, check for a Voice Travel Add-on. Fizz says that add-on is required for voicemail access in those locations.
- Set up the phone. Enable mobile data if needed; enable data roaming when required for the destination and service you intend to use. If you need U.S. calls on LTE-only coverage, verify VoLTE eligibility and activation.
If mobile data does not work after arrival
Start with the essentials: confirm your plan or add-on has data available, restart the phone, and check that the destination’s network is selected automatically. On Android, verify the APN configuration if needed. Also check that the phone has not been set to use Wi-Fi only or otherwise prevented from using mobile data. Fizz lists these as troubleshooting checks; they are not substitutes for confirming coverage and travel service before the trip. Fizz data troubleshooting steps
