Square Enix has also announced him as the nemesis in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the planned third Remake project entry, due April 8, 2027. That last game is not released as of October 13, 2026. The games differ in where they sit in the story: one is a prequel, one follows Cloud’s party after Midgar, and one tells a multi-chapter story that includes a young Sephiroth.
Which Final Fantasy VII games feature Sephiroth?
The key games are the original Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion and Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. The announced Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature him too, but its planned April 8, 2027 release date is still in the future as of October 13, 2026.

There is an important difference in how directly the available official descriptions establish his role. Square Enix explicitly names Sephiroth in its descriptions of Rebirth, Crisis Core Reunion, Ever Crisis and Revelation. The official Remake synopsis does not name him; it describes Cloud experiencing visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead. Read in the context of the Remake storyline, this points to Sephiroth, but the synopsis alone does not confirm a specific scene or appearance.

How Sephiroth’s role differs from game to game
The original game and the Remake project
The original Final Fantasy VII is the starting point for the story. Square Enix’s franchise listing confirms the game’s place in the series, but the available official listing does not explain Sephiroth’s role in it. That means it is reasonable to include the original game in a list of FFVII titles associated with him, but not to use that listing as support for scene-by-scene claims.

The Remake project retells and expands the story across multiple installments; it is not a single game with a different edition name. Square Enix describes Remake as the first standalone entry and sets its story endpoint at the party’s escape from Midgar. Its synopsis mentions Cloud’s visions of an enemy believed dead, but does not identify that enemy by name. In Rebirth, by contrast, the official description directly names Sephiroth as the figure Cloud and his companions pursue after leaving Midgar. Taken together, the descriptions establish Sephiroth as part of the Remake storyline, while only the Rebirth synopsis states his name outright.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the expanded-edition title for Remake, not a fourth Remake project installment. Counting it separately would overstate the number of distinct story entries. The planned trilogy is Remake, Rebirth and Revelation.
Crisis Core Reunion: a story set earlier
Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion is a remaster of Crisis Core, and its story begins seven years before the events of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix explicitly names Sephiroth among the characters, alongside the game’s prequel-era cast, including Zack. This makes it a different way to encounter him than the main-game pursuit in Rebirth: the story is set earlier in the timeline, rather than continuing the party’s journey out of Midgar.

The distinction between the original Crisis Core and Crisis Core Reunion matters when counting releases. Reunion is the remastered version; it is not a separate sequel or a new Remake project installment.
Ever Crisis: several story threads, including a young Sephiroth
Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is structured in chapters and draws on important elements from across the FFVII timeline, while also adding new story material. One of those threads concerns a young Sephiroth. It therefore should not be described as simply another installment of the Remake trilogy: it is a multi-chapter RPG with a broader timeline scope and its own additional story elements.
Square Enix’s Steam announcement also said the game was available on iOS and Android. In a December 8, 2023 announcement, the company reported more than 7 million iOS downloads since the game’s September mobile release. That is a historical iOS download count reported at that time, not a current total or a count across all platforms. Platform availability and service status may change, so check current platform listings if you are deciding where to play.
Revelation: the planned finale
Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII Revelation as the third entry in the Remake project and set its launch date for April 8, 2027. In the September 3, 2026 announcement, the company described Sephiroth as the party’s nemesis and said story DLCs featuring him were planned. Those are announced plans, not proof that the game or DLC is already available. A release date can change, so treat April 8, 2027 as the announced schedule rather than a released-on date.

The announcement also described a Collector’s Edition statue featuring Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth. That makes the edition relevant to fans looking for a character collectible as well as to players following the game. It does not establish current stock or availability, so check Square Enix’s current regional listing before making a purchase.
Are the Remake games separate games or editions?
Remake, Rebirth and Revelation are separate story installments in a planned trilogy. Each has its own title and place in the project. Remake Intergrade, on the other hand, is the expanded edition of the first installment, not an additional chapter in the trilogy. Crisis Core Reunion is a remaster of a prequel game, while Ever Crisis is its own chapter-based project. These distinctions help avoid mixing up story entries with editions or remasters.
| Name | How to count it |
|---|---|
| Remake | First Remake project story installment |
| Remake Intergrade | Expanded edition of Remake; do not count as a separate installment |
| Rebirth | Second Remake project story installment |
| Revelation | Announced third installment; planned release April 8, 2027 |
| Crisis Core Reunion | Remaster of a separate prequel game |
| Ever Crisis | Separate chapter-structured RPG spanning multiple timeline elements |
What about other Final Fantasy VII games and spin-offs?
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Portal copyright listing also names works such as Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus and The First Soldier. A copyright listing establishes that these are franchise works; by itself it does not confirm whether Sephiroth appears in each one or what his role is. They should not be added to a confirmed-character list on the strength of that listing alone.
This is a useful limit when answering a broad “which games?” question. A title’s connection to the FFVII franchise is not the same as an official description of a character’s appearance in that title. For the games with explicit official character references, the clearest evidence is available for Rebirth, Crisis Core Reunion, Ever Crisis and the announced Revelation. The Remake synopsis supports a cautious identification through its description of Cloud’s visions, while the franchise listing for the original game does not detail Sephiroth’s role.
Which one should you play to see Sephiroth?
If you want the clearest official synopsis naming Sephiroth in a main Remake project game, choose Rebirth: Square Enix describes Cloud’s party pursuing him after leaving Midgar. To follow the Remake story from its beginning, start with Remake and continue to Rebirth; the first game ends with the party escaping Midgar, and Intergrade is an expanded edition of that first installment.
If you want a story set before the original game’s events, Crisis Core Reunion is the relevant prequel-era option, beginning seven years earlier and explicitly including Sephiroth. If you prefer a chapter-based game that combines material from several parts of the timeline with additional story, Ever Crisis includes a young-Sephiroth thread. Revelation is not a present-day choice: it remains upcoming, with an announced April 8, 2027 launch date.
For a physical game purchase, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Rebirth and Crisis Core Reunion are relevant product names to search. Match the listing to your platform and region rather than assuming that every edition or retailer listing is interchangeable. Prices, stock and retailer program participation are not established here, so confirm those details directly with the seller. For Ever Crisis, check the current store listing and service status before planning around its mobile or Steam availability.

Quick comparison: which game fits your question?
- Want the main Remake storyline? Start with Remake, continue to Rebirth, and watch for the announced Revelation. The project is a trilogy, not a set of editions of one game.
- Want an earlier point in the timeline? Choose Crisis Core Reunion, a remaster whose story begins seven years before Final Fantasy VII.
- Want a multi-chapter overview with additional story? Ever Crisis draws on multiple timeline elements and has a young-Sephiroth thread.
- Want to buy a collectible? Square Enix announced a Revelation Collector’s Edition statue featuring Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth; verify the current edition and availability in your region.
These options answer different questions: story chronology, a particular version of the Remake project, or a specific Sephiroth-era thread. They are not interchangeable entries in one continuous release sequence. In particular, Crisis Core Reunion is earlier in the fictional timeline but is a remaster, while Ever Crisis gathers multiple story material into chapters rather than occupying one single place after Rebirth.
Frequently Asked Questions

The official Remake synopsis describes Cloud having visions of a bitter enemy long thought dead, but does not name Sephiroth. In the Remake storyline, this points to him; the synopsis itself does not establish a specific scene or appearance.

Yes. Square Enix’s official description says Cloud and his companions pursue Sephiroth after leaving Midgar.
Is Crisis Core Reunion a sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake?
No. It is a remaster of Crisis Core, a prequel-era story that begins seven years before Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix lists Sephiroth among its characters.
Does Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis feature a young Sephiroth?
Yes. Square Enix describes additional story material around a young Sephiroth in the chapter-structured game. Its story spans multiple FFVII timeline elements, so it is not simply another Remake trilogy installment.

No, as of October 13, 2026. Square Enix announced a planned April 8, 2027 release and identified Sephiroth as the party’s nemesis, with Sephiroth-focused story DLC planned. The schedule and plans may change.
The Bottom Line
For the main Remake storyline, play Remake followed by Rebirth; Sephiroth is named directly in the latter’s official synopsis.
