On a ColorOS 16 phone, check the installed version and model first, then adjust the lock-screen clock, theme, and home-screen layout if they make the phone easier to read. Treat full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) as an experiment: OPPO says it appears for only five seconds, not continuously. AI and connected-device features are optional and may not be present on every model, region, or software build. If the factory setup already suits you, there is no setting you must change.
Check your phone before changing anything
ColorOS settings are not identical across OPPO models. OPPO’s support documentation warns that menu names and paths can differ by device, while its AOD instructions specify ColorOS 16 and above. Software version, model, region, and rollout status therefore matter more than a generic list of “best” settings.

Confirm the installed ColorOS version and model
Open Settings and locate the device-information page that displays the ColorOS version and model name; the exact label can vary. Record those details before troubleshooting a missing option. A feature described for ColorOS 16 may not appear on an older build, and a feature shown on OPPO’s global product page may not be included in the software shipped on a particular phone.
Decide what you are trying to improve
- Readability: begin with clock style, theme contrast, icon size, or folder shape.
- Glanceable information: test AOD, but expect a short display window rather than an all-day panel.
- Photo editing: look for the AI tools that are actually installed on your phone.
- Cross-device convenience: inspect connectivity features only if you use the relevant devices and services.
These goals lead to different choices. Changing a theme or icon size is easy to reverse; enabling an unavailable feature is impossible until OPPO supplies it for your build.

First priority: make the home and lock screens easier to use
Personalization is the safest starting point because it changes appearance and layout without requiring you to adopt a new workflow. OPPO documents two useful areas in ColorOS 16: Flux Themes for the lock-screen clock and Flux Home Screen for resizing icons and folders.
Change the lock-screen clock or theme
Use OPPO’s documented clock-editing route:
- Open Settings.
- Choose Home screen, Lock Screen & style.
- Tap All Flux Themes.
- Select the card marked In use.
- Tap the clock in the editing interface and choose the available clock treatment.
The useful change is the one that improves recognition at a glance. A larger, simpler clock can be easier to read; a decorative design may better match your wallpaper but provide less immediate contrast. Because the controls are visual, you can try a style and return to the previous theme if it makes the lock screen harder to scan.
Resize app icons and folders
OPPO’s Flux Home Screen announcement says you can long-press an app icon or folder and resize it into different shapes. The surrounding layout adapts as the item changes size. This is worth trying when frequently used apps are difficult to distinguish or when a less crowded home screen would help.

Long-press an icon or folder and look for the resize control. If no control appears, do not assume the phone is malfunctioning: OPPO says the exact feature and menu can depend on the device. Keep the layout that lets you find essential apps quickly; a larger icon is not automatically better if it pushes key shortcuts onto another page.

Second priority: try full-screen Always-On Display carefully
Full-screen AOD is optional, not a universal upgrade. It is most useful if you like a more visual lock-screen presentation and do not need it to remain visible all day. OPPO’s support instructions describe this path:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Home Screen, Lock Screen, & style.
- Choose All Flux Themes, then Clock.
- Select a theme.
- Swipe to the leftmost AOD editing screen.
- Choose Full-screen and tap Apply.
Capitalization and punctuation in the menu can vary from the wording above because OPPO’s own pages use slightly different labels. If the option is absent, first verify that the phone is running ColorOS 16 or later and that the model and build support it.

Understand the display behavior before enabling it
OPPO says full-screen AOD does not support all-day display. After it appears, it turns off five seconds later. Tapping the screen or raising a hand wakes the phone. That makes it a brief glance or visual effect, not a persistent dashboard. If you need information to remain visible, this mode may not match your routine.

Check whether the five-second window is long enough for your glance, whether the design remains readable in your lighting, and whether the wake gesture feels natural. If the result is distracting, return to the prior clock or theme instead of treating AOD as a required setting.
Third priority: inspect AI tools only when you have a specific use
OPPO’s ColorOS 16 materials describe AI Portrait Glow for improving poorly lit portraits along with other editing capabilities. These can be useful when a photo needs a targeted correction, but they are not settings every owner needs to activate. Open the photo editor and use an AI control only when the result you want is clear; otherwise, the standard editing tools may be sufficient.

Availability is the critical qualification. OPPO states that AI features shown on its product page may not be included in the software version at launch. A missing AI control can therefore reflect rollout timing, model support, region, or build differences rather than an error in your settings. Check the tools installed on the actual phone instead of assuming that a feature shown in a product description is present.
Review connected-device options on your own terms
The global ColorOS 16 product information also presents connectivity features. Their practical value depends on whether you own and regularly use compatible devices and whether the feature has reached your software build. Treat them as optional conveniences: inspect the description on the phone, test only the function you need, and leave unrelated controls at their defaults.
Do not mistake vendor performance figures for a setting recommendation
OPPO publishes several ColorOS 16 performance figures on its 2025 product page. They are vendor-reported results from footnoted tests, not independent measurements and not a promise that every phone will show the same outcome. The available source capture does not reproduce the full test-device and condition details, so the figures should be read as OPPO’s claims in that stated test context.

None of these numbers tells you to change a particular menu first. Use your own symptoms—slow taps, unstable scrolling, heat, or battery drain—to decide whether a software update or support diagnosis is warranted. Do not convert a vendor percentage into an expectation for your individual phone.
What to do when a setting is missing or behaves differently
The menu path does not match
Check the ColorOS version and model again, then search the Settings app for terms such as “Flux,” “AOD,” or “clock.” OPPO explicitly cautions that paths can differ by device. A different label does not necessarily mean the feature is absent, but do not enable an unrelated control simply because its name looks similar.
Full-screen AOD is unavailable
Confirm that the device is on ColorOS 16 or above and consider model, region, and rollout differences. If the option still is not offered, keep the standard lock screen; the feature is optional and OPPO does not describe it as an all-day display.
An AI feature shown online is not on the phone
OPPO’s product information warns that described AI features may not be included at launch. Check the installed editor and software build rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings. Availability can arrive later or remain limited to particular devices or regions.
The new layout is less usable
Return to the previous theme or resize the affected icon or folder back toward its earlier arrangement. Favor the layout that makes essential apps and the clock easiest to identify; visual novelty is not a usability requirement.
A sensible first-session order
- Record the phone model and installed ColorOS version.
- Adjust the lock-screen clock or Flux Theme only if readability or appearance needs improvement.
- Long-press important icons or folders and resize them if the control is available and the change helps navigation.
- Test full-screen AOD with the five-second limit in mind; keep it only if that behavior suits you.
- Open the photo editor and connected-device areas only for a specific task, checking which features are actually present.
- Leave everything else at its default until you have a concrete reason to change it.
This order starts with reversible personalization, makes the AOD trade-off explicit, and prevents product-page capabilities from being confused with guaranteed features on every ColorOS 16 phone.
