Which Cloud Services Can Run a 24/7 YouTube Stream from Google Drive?

Short answer: Drive does not broadcast a stored video to YouTube by itself. You need a service or machine that can retrieve the authorized Drive file, play and encode it as a live feed, and send it to a YouTube Live event. StreamNeo is the simplest cloud option in this set: upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; it loops uploaded video from the cloud, with no computer left running.

Which services can do it?

There are three broad approaches, but they do different jobs. A cloud VM running an encoder can be configured to fetch a Drive file and send it to YouTube. Google Cloud Live Stream API is a managed live transcoding service, not a documented Drive-file-to-YouTube relay. A dedicated cloud playlist service may fit if it explicitly supports file playout and YouTube RTMP output.

  1. StreamNeo: For uploaded videos or playlists, StreamNeo runs an always-on YouTube stream in the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. It is #1 for a ready-made option because it runs continuously from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
  2. A cloud VM or VPS with an encoder: This is a flexible do-it-yourself architecture. You arrange authenticated Drive access, file playback, encoding, YouTube delivery, process supervision, and recovery. Google identifies ffmpeg as an example encoder, but the reviewed sources do not verify a named VM provider as a turnkey Drive-to-YouTube service or establish provider pricing or uptime.
  3. Google Cloud Live Stream API: This accepts live RTMP or SRT input, transcodes it, and produces HLS or DASH output saved to Cloud Storage. The documented flow does not directly retrieve a Drive video and push it to YouTube, so it is not a standalone file playout service for this use.
  4. Another dedicated cloud playlist service: Consider one only after confirming it supports authorized source access, looping or playlists, YouTube RTMP output, and recovery. No named service with verified Drive integration and continuous YouTube output is established by the available official documentation.

How the Drive-to-YouTube workflow works

A self-managed setup has three separate pieces: source retrieval, video playout and encoding, and YouTube ingestion. Drive is file storage; it is not an always-on broadcaster.

  1. Retrieve the file from Drive. For a binary video, the Drive API documents files.get with alt=media. A webContentLink can also be used when the requesting user has download access. Use authorized credentials and check the file’s capabilities.canDownload value and any applicable download restrictions. An ordinary sharing or viewing URL is not a guaranteed unattended media source. See Google’s Drive download and export guide.
  2. Play and encode the video on a host. Run an encoder on a VM or another suitable managed platform, and configure it to read the authorized source. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API overview describes an encoder program such as ffmpeg as a live-stream input source; it does not establish a particular file-playout configuration. Your chosen encoder and downstream service must agree on the accepted input protocol and format. See the Google Cloud Live Stream API overview.
  3. Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder. YouTube supports third-party encoder streaming. Use the ingestion address and stream name supplied for the specific broadcast, and protect the stream key. RTMP or RTMPS is a practical starting point for an ordinary encoder workflow; YouTube also documents other ingestion protocols and their capabilities. See YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance, the LiveStreams API reference, and the protocol comparison.
  4. Make it continuous. Configure process supervision and a restart plan for the encoder, source access, and YouTube connection. A 24/7 requirement means recovering from interruptions and any service-specific session limits, not merely leaving one process running.

What to check before choosing a service

  • Drive authorization: Confirm the account or application can download the file, and plan for credentials, permission changes, and download restrictions. Drive owners or shared-drive organizers can restrict downloads.
  • Source behavior: Verify that the service can play the file repeatedly or manage a playlist from a reliable source. Do not assume a browser viewing link will work as a permanent media input.
  • YouTube output: Confirm the service sends an encoder feed to YouTube using the per-broadcast ingestion details, rather than only delivering HLS or DASH to a player or storage bucket.
  • Recovery: Ask how the service responds to a dropped YouTube connection, a host restart, expired credentials, or a source file that becomes inaccessible.
  • Rights and policies: You need permission to access the Drive file and the rights to rebroadcast its contents. YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service apply to live streams regardless of where the encoder runs.

Google Cloud Live Stream API: an important 24-hour caveat

The Live Stream API can be useful when your goal is managed live transcoding from RTMP or SRT into HLS or DASH outputs saved to Cloud Storage. Those capabilities should not be mistaken for an automated Drive-file playout path to YouTube.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

There is also a session constraint for a literal 24/7 setup. Google’s current quotas and limits documentation, accessed October 3, 2026, says: “Live stream sessions last for 24 hours after you start a channel. After 24 hours in any StreamingState other than STOPPED or STOPPING, the channel may be restarted.” This applies to that API, and any design using it needs a tested restart plan.

Do-it-yourself cloud costs and trade-offs

A VM-based setup gives you control over the encoder and integration, but the reviewed sources do not establish a current price for a suitable VM or a named provider’s turnkey Drive-to-YouTube capability. Compare the actual service terms and expected costs for continuous runtime, CPU or GPU capacity, storage, network transfer, region, restart supervision, and setup effort. A managed transcoder may simplify encoding while still leaving you to build the file retrieval and YouTube delivery path.
