Google Slides with Gemini, PowerPoint with Copilot, and Claude Design all support AI-assisted presentation creation, but the available documentation does not establish a single tool as the best at producing professional decks. The practical choice depends on where you need to work, what references and templates you can supply, and how you plan to edit and export the result.
What each tool can do
| Tool | Documented workflow | Export and editing | Access notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Slides with Gemini | Generate an editable presentation from a prompt and optional reference files. The workflow lets you review and approve a plan before generation. | Edit slides yourself or ask Gemini to refine content and images. | Requires an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan. Google also describes availability through Workspace Experiments for personal accounts. The documented feature is on desktop and in English; check current eligibility and rollout terms. Google’s July 22, 2026 announcement lists Workspace Business and Enterprise Standard/Plus customers and Google AI Pro/Ultra. See Google’s help page. |
| PowerPoint with Copilot | Prompt Copilot to create a presentation, review and refine an outline, then generate slides. You can also start from a presentation template. | Continue editing in PowerPoint. Some creation features require a Designer license. | Availability depends on subscription and organization settings, and options may vary during rollout. Microsoft advises reviewing and editing AI-generated content. See the PowerPoint creation guide and Copilot FAQ. |
| Claude Design and Claude Slides | Claude Design supports visual work such as slides and pitch decks. Anthropic’s September 2026 update describes a dedicated deck-creation starting point in Claude Slides. | Claude Design can export PPTX, PDF, HTML, or Google Slides. Anthropic says Google Slides export is available only at claude.ai/design. Claude Slides decks export to PowerPoint and PDF. | The help page describes beta availability on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Check Anthropic’s April 17, 2026 announcement, Claude Design help, and the September 2026 update. |
Microsoft separately documents Claude as an available model for some Copilot editing experiences in PowerPoint. That option is subject to a commercial Copilot subscription, region and subscription availability, and enterprise administrator settings; it is not the same workflow as creating a deck in Claude Design. Details are in Microsoft’s model-choice help.

Choose by your destination and working method
Choose Gemini when you want an editable Google Slides deck
Gemini’s documented workflow is suited to starting from a prompt and optional reference files, reviewing a plan, then refining the generated presentation in Slides. Confirm that the relevant feature is enabled for your account before building a workflow around it.
Choose Copilot when the work needs to stay in PowerPoint
Copilot offers an outline-review step and can use a presentation template as a starting point. That can be useful when your organization already works in PowerPoint, but feature access may depend on licensing and administrator settings.

Choose Claude Design when its export options match your handoff
Claude Design offers multiple export formats, which can suit work that moves between presentation and other visual formats. If you need a Google Slides file, note the documented limitation: that export is available only through claude.ai/design. Claude Slides also provides a dedicated deck starting point, with PowerPoint and PDF export documented by Anthropic.
How to compare deck quality fairly
Product documentation establishes workflows and export options, not which tool produces the most professional deck. A defensible winner requires a controlled comparison: use the same prompt, source material, design brief, and target deck length, then score each result with the same rubric. Record the date, plan tiers, number of runs, and any manual edits; visual preference is subjective and should be labeled as such.

- Brief and structure: Does the deck answer the intended audience’s question, follow the requested narrative, and avoid unnecessary slides?
- Source handling: Does it use supplied references accurately, and can a reviewer trace important claims to them?
- Design: Are hierarchy, readability, spacing, and visual consistency appropriate for the audience and setting?
- Editability: Can you revise text, layouts, and visuals in the editor where the deck will be maintained?
- Cleanup: How much repair is needed for factual errors, awkward wording, layout problems, or unsupported claims?
- Handoff: Does the tool export to the format and destination your collaborators need?
Review every AI-generated deck before presenting
Check factual claims, figures, charts, and citations against the original sources. Microsoft explicitly says generated content should be reviewed and edited; the same caution applies when using the other tools. A polished slide can still contain a wrong number, an invented citation, or a chart that misrepresents its data.
Check access before choosing a workflow
Feature names and availability can change, and eligibility may depend on plan, region, device, language, rollout status, or organization settings. Before committing, check the applicable official help page and confirm that the feature and export you need are enabled for your account. This is especially important for managed work accounts, where an administrator can affect availability.
