For a new post, the sharing control is the Post step at the end of the composer at the top of Feed: you write or add your content, check the audience, and click or tap Post. For an existing post, there is no single fixed Share location that Facebook documents for every post type and interface version, so the practical approach is to look at the options attached to that specific post. This guide covers each sharing task separately, because the steps differ depending on whether you are publishing something new, sharing device photos from a phone, or sharing a group QR code.
Sharing something new: the composer at the top of Feed
Facebook’s Help Center describes new-post sharing as starting from the top of Feed, where the composer lets you add content and publish it. The steps below follow the official instructions in Facebook Help Center, “Share something on Facebook”.

- Open Facebook and go to Feed.
- Start a post from the composer at the top of Feed. Add text, or choose a format such as photo/video or feeling/activity.
- Before publishing, open the audience selector and confirm who should see the post. The Help Center’s wording is “Click the audience selector at the top (example: Public) to select who you’d like to share your post to.”
- Select Post. The computer instructions say “Click Post”; on a phone or tablet the control is a tap, and the label may be worded slightly differently.
The same article covers computer, Android, iPhone, iPad, mobile browser, and Facebook Lite. Layout and wording vary between these, so if a label on your screen does not match, look for the step that performs the same action in the composer.

The audience selector is the control that decides who can see what you share, and it is the step most worth checking before you select Post. Facebook’s guidance on deciding who can see a post notes that posts or comments in public groups are public, so a post made in a public group should be treated as visible to anyone. The reference used here is the Polish-language version of that article, Facebook Help Center, “Deciding who can see your post on Facebook” (Polish localization); the point is stated here in plain English.

- A more natural connection. Smart Camera adjusts automatically so you can move freely and stay in frame, while Smart Sound ensures you can easily be heard.
- Call anyone, anywhere. Use apps like Messenger and WhatsApp to connect with friends and family—even if they don’t have a Meta Portal.
- Designed for the home. With a sleek picture frame design, quick setup and intuitive voice and touchscreen controls, Portal fits easily and seamlessly into your home.
- Privacy by design. Easily disable the camera and microphone, or block the lens with the camera cover.
Sharing photos from a phone
On mobile, Facebook’s photo instructions start from the same place: Photo at the top of Feed. The steps are:
- Tap Photo at the top of Feed.
- Choose the images you want from your camera roll.
- Tap Next, then tap Post.
To share photos stored on the device, the app needs permission to access the camera roll. If you have denied that permission, grant it in your phone’s system settings for the Facebook app and then return to the composer. Permission is needed for device photos specifically; it is not a requirement for sharing text or other content types. Source: Facebook Help Center, “Share photos on Facebook”.

Finding Share on an existing post
The official material available for this topic covers creating posts. It does not provide a complete map of where the Share control sits on every existing post, and Facebook’s layout for individual posts varies by content type, privacy setting, and app version. Do not rely on a fixed position from an older guide.
When you cannot see Share on a post you are looking at, check the options available on that post itself, such as the menu and action controls shown beneath or beside it. The audience and actions available can depend on the original post and its privacy settings. If you still cannot find the control, the post may not permit sharing, or the feature may be arranged differently in your interface version.

- Call anyone, anywhere. Use apps like Messenger and WhatsApp to connect with friends and family—even if they don’t have a Meta Portal.

- Great sound anywhere. Listen to music with a speaker that can fill any room. Doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker around the home.
Sharing a Facebook group QR code
A group QR code is a separate admin feature, not a general post-sharing control. Facebook says only group admins can access the group QR code, and this is done from a computer:
- Open the group on a computer.
- Select More in the group.
- Select Share, then Share via QR Code.
Hidden private groups do not have a group QR code. Source: Facebook Help Center, “Share a QR code for a Facebook group you admin”.

- Move and talk freely with Smart Camera: With Smart Camera, you don’t have to worry about being out of frame. Whether you’re moving around the kitchen, prepping dinner or chasing the kids through the living room, Smart Camera adjusts to follow the action. And as more people enter a room, Smart Camera automatically widens to keep everyone in view, so you don’t miss a moment
- Private by design: Facebook doesn't listen to, view or keep the contents of your Portal video calls. Calls on Portal are encrypted, so conversations stay between you and those you're calling. You can also completely disable the camera and microphone with a single tap, or block the camera lens with the camera cover provided
- Connect with friends, even if they don't have Portal: Easily call friends and family on Messenger — calls can be made seamlessly to and from smartphones and tablets. And you can bring up to six other people into a group call
- Alexa built-in: Portal has Alexa built-in, so you can ask a question, set a timer, add items to your shopping list, control your smart home or more. Just ask
- Experience more together: With Portal, story time will never be the same. With music, animation and augmented reality effects, Portal lets you become some of your children’s favorite characters as you read along to well-loved stories. And if friends or family also have Portal, you can listen to your favorite music together as if you were in the same room, without delays or feedback
Quick reference by task
| Task | Where you start | Device context | Check before finishing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Share a new post | Composer at the top of Feed | Computer, Android, iPhone, iPad, mobile browser, Facebook Lite (labels vary) | Audience selector; then Post |
| Share device photos | Photo at the top of Feed | Mobile app | Camera-roll permission granted; then Next and Post |
| Share an existing post | Options on that post | Varies; no single location documented | Whether the post allows sharing and who can see it |
| Share a group QR code | More in the group | Computer only; admins only | Group is not a hidden private group |
If something is missing
- No Photo option on your phone: check that the Facebook app is up to date and that camera-roll access is allowed in your phone’s settings.
- Post button greyed out or not responding: confirm the composer contains content and an audience is selected.
- No QR code option: confirm you are on a computer and are an admin of the group, and that the group is not a hidden private group.
- Share missing on an older post: check the post’s own options, since placement is not fixed across post types.
Keep the steps current
Facebook changes labels and placement, and the Help Center pages reviewed here do not show a publication date. If a step does not match your screen, follow the action rather than the exact wording: find the composer or photo entry, the audience selector, and the final publish control.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the audience each time you publish, because the audience setting, not the button label, decides who sees your post.

The Bottom Line
To share something new, use the composer at the top of Feed, confirm the audience, and select Post. For device photos on mobile, use Photo at the top of Feed. For group QR codes, use a computer as a group admin and go to More, then Share, then Share via QR Code. For an existing post, look at that post’s own options, because Facebook does not document one fixed Share location.
