Sticky Notes in Windows 11 may be stored locally on your PC or synced to your Microsoft account. Open the app to see notes available on the device; if you signed in and enabled sync, check the same account online at OneNote.com/stickynotes. A commonly cited local folder is available, but Microsoft’s current support guidance does not confirm that exact path for every Windows 11 installation.
Find and open your notes in Windows 11
- Open Start, search for Sticky Notes, and launch the app.
- If only one note is visible, open that note’s ellipsis menu and select Notes list.
- Scroll through the list or search for the note you need.
Microsoft says Sticky Notes opens where you left it. A single open note can obscure the list, so check the Notes list before assuming other notes are gone. See Microsoft’s instructions in Where did my Sticky Notes go?.
Local storage versus synced storage

Microsoft says signing in to Sticky Notes version 3.0 or later enables syncing. To check online, use the same Microsoft account as in the app and visit OneNote.com/stickynotes. The web address is the access point; Microsoft identifies Outlook.com as the storage location for synced notes.
The commonly cited local folder—and its limitation
A Microsoft Q&A community thread about an older Windows 10 migration gives this folder and refers to a database named Plum.sqlite:

Microsoft’s current support pages reviewed here do not confirm that exact path or filename for every Windows 11 installation. The path may help identify a commonly cited app-data location, but do not treat it as a guaranteed backup or a promise that the notes can be restored. - Open Sticky Notes and check the Notes list for the notes you expect.
- If you use sync, confirm you are signed into the intended Microsoft account and check whether the notes appear at OneNote.com/stickynotes.
- For synced notes you want to keep, follow Microsoft’s export instructions.
- Do not reset or uninstall the app until you have confirmed notes are synced or preserved another way. Microsoft warns that local notes are deleted if you reset or uninstall while not signed in.
If a note seems missing
- Only one note shows: Open its ellipsis menu, choose Notes list, then search or scroll.
- Notes are absent on another device: Check that Sticky Notes is signed into the same Microsoft account used for sync, then check the web view.
- A note was deleted: Microsoft says deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Microsoft recommends enabling the deletion confirmation prompt to help prevent accidental deletion.
