Use a playlist when one scheduled broadcast should play several prerecorded videos in a chosen order. Use a single prerecorded-video event when one recording is enough. If you want a host or guest to appear live between recorded clips, choose a production workflow that supports mixing live and prerecorded content; Restream says its Playlists cannot currently do that.
Choose a playlist when the sequence is the program
A playlist turns multiple prerecorded videos into one planned broadcast. It fits a workshop made of several sessions, a product launch with successive demonstrations, a fundraising program, or a curated music or television block. The point is not merely to replay video: it is to present multiple segments in a deliberate order as one scheduled event. Restream lists product launches, demos, workshops, live sales, online music and television, charity and fundraising, and interactive performances among its playlist use cases. If there is only one self-contained recording, schedule it as a single prerecorded-video event instead. Restream documents separate Video and Playlist event types; a playlist adds sequencing value when there is more than one segment, not when a single video is the whole program. Restream’s prerecorded-event guide
Match the format to what viewers will see
| What the broadcast needs | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| One recording airing at a set time | Single prerecorded-video event | There is no sequence to build; Restream documents a separate single-video event workflow. |
| Several recorded segments in a particular order | Playlist | It lines up multiple videos as one scheduled broadcast. |
| A repeatable launch, demo, workshop, fundraising program or music block | Playlist | These are among Restream’s stated playlist use cases. |
| A live host or guest between recorded clips | Live Studio or another mixed-content workflow | Restream says its playlists cannot be blended with live content; it points users to videos in Studio for mixed streams. |
| A broadcast expected to start while the producer is offline | Scheduled video or playlist, after checking each destination | Restream says these events start automatically at their scheduled time, but some connected platforms require a manual start. |
| Continuous or 24/7 programming | A service and plan that explicitly support continuous loops | A scheduled playlist feature alone does not establish unlimited continuous operation. |
Check automation and promotion before scheduling
Automatic start depends on the destination
Restream says scheduled video files and playlists go live automatically at the selected time. Its documentation also identifies exceptions: some connected destinations, including TikTok and Instagram, require a manual start on the destination itself. Confirm the behavior for every channel in your event rather than assuming that scheduling in one service guarantees an unattended start everywhere. Restream’s scheduling guide

Other providers describe similar automation with their own destination limits. StreamYard says a scheduled prerecorded stream can go live even if the producer is offline, while its scheduling guide says advance scheduling is unavailable for some destinations, including X, Instagram and custom RTMP destinations. These are provider-specific behaviors; check the current documentation for the service and channels you plan to use. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide · StreamYard’s scheduling guide
Make sure viewers can find the event in advance
Advance event links are not available on every destination. Restream says scheduled playlists can have advance links on Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn; where a destination does not provide an advance event link, it advises sharing the profile URL instead. Check this before you announce a specific event link in email, social posts or other promotions. Restream’s playlist guide

Know the playlist limits before building a long program
Restream’s playlist documentation, published July 25, 2026, specifies a maximum duration of 24 hours and a maximum of 40 video entries. Duplicate clips count toward the entry limit. These are Restream-specific limits, not general limits for prerecorded streaming. The same guide says you can add, remove or rearrange videos only before the playlist goes live; while it is airing, graphics and chat can still be edited. Restream’s playlist guide

Restream also says back-to-back playlists run as separate streams with a two-minute buffer. If your schedule depends on a precise handoff, account for that gap rather than treating consecutive playlists as a seamless single broadcast. Restream’s playlist guide

For a playlist that repeats clips or runs continuously, verify the chosen provider’s current plan and limits. Restream’s prerecorded-video page describes optional looping up to 10 times and says looping is available on its Marathon and Media add-on tiers; plan names and availability can change. OneStream Live markets playlists and continuous loops, but that is a provider’s feature description, not an independent performance test. Restream’s prerecorded-event guide · OneStream Live’s prerecorded-streaming page
Use a simple preflight checklist
- Confirm the format: one recording calls for a single-video event; multiple ordered segments call for a playlist; live appearances between clips call for a mixed-content workflow.
- Check each destination: verify prerecorded-stream support and whether it starts automatically or requires a manual action.
- Confirm event promotion: find out whether the destination offers an advance event link or whether you should share a profile URL.
- Check capacity and edit rules: compare playlist duration, entry count, resolution and storage limits, and find out whether the list can be changed after it starts.
- Validate repeat behavior: if the program must loop or continue, confirm that the specific provider and plan explicitly support it.
When the goal is an always-on YouTube channel
A scheduled playlist is suited to a defined program with a start time. For continuous prerecorded programming, choose a service that explicitly supports looping or always-on operation; do not infer 24/7 capability from a scheduler’s playlist feature. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded content without requiring a computer or home connection to stay on. Each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI is supported.
