There is no proven cheapest month to buy new tires. A 2013 South Coast Air Quality Management District report found that retailers interviewed commonly saw sales rise in late spring or early summer and fall, with promotions often timed to those periods. That makes them sensible times to check offers—not guaranteed windows for the lowest price. Compare the current, fully installed cost of the right tires for your vehicle, and do not delay a needed replacement just to wait for a sale.
When do tires usually go on sale?
The seasonal evidence is suggestive, not a price guarantee. In its 2013 Passenger Vehicle Replacement Tire Efficiency Study, the South Coast Air Quality Management District reported that retailers interviewed said tire sales generally increase in late spring or early summer and fall, and that promotions often coincide with those popular buying periods.

The report describes retailer interviews; it does not establish that those seasons are always cheapest or show a nationwide month-by-month price pattern. The sources available do not provide a current, independent dataset of monthly tire transaction prices that would prove a single cheapest month. Treat seasonal timing as a prompt to check offers, not a reason to expect a particular dollar or percentage saving.
Should you wait for a tire rebate?
Check current offers for the tire you need, but do not assume a holiday, month, or brand will have the same promotion every year. Michelin says, “Promotion dates change throughout the year.” Its deals and rebates page also makes clear that eligibility depends on qualifying purchases through participating dealers within the promotion period.

Retailer and dealer offers are time-limited too. Before counting on a rebate, confirm its start and end dates, eligible tire models, participating sellers, submission deadline, and whether it can be combined with another offer. For example, Hankook’s promotion terms include eligibility limits and restrictions on combining certain offers. Current retailer listings, such as Tire Rack’s special offers and Mopar’s tire services and offers, can also help you see what is available when you are shopping.
How to compare tire deals fairly
- Confirm the correct fitment. Check the vehicle’s tire-information label and owner’s manual for the required size and ratings before shopping. Mopar provides size guidance, and Toyota Canada’s Tire Centre recommends retaining original-equipment fitment for replacement and winter tires. Follow the vehicle maker’s specifications rather than choosing by price alone.
- Compare the same suitable tire across sellers. Use the exact size and model when comparing prices, and check that each listing fits your vehicle. Consider availability and delivery or installation timing as well as whether the tire suits your climate, driving conditions, and preferences. Discount Tire’s comparison guidance identifies fit, use, budget, performance, estimated tire life, warranty, reviews, and specifications as relevant factors.
- Calculate the out-the-door cost. Add mounting and balancing, taxes, disposal charges or other fees, and shipping where applicable. Then account for any rebate and the steps required to redeem it; a rebate is not the same as an immediate discount. Retailer offers may also differ in included services, such as shipping or road-hazard coverage.
- Check timing and terms before buying. Verify the offer dates, eligible tires, participating seller, redemption deadline, and stacking rules for the exact offer. Compare the final amount you expect to pay—not just the advertised tire price.
What is the best time for your purchase?
If you can shop flexibly, late spring or early summer and fall are reasonable periods to look for promotions based on the retailer interviews in the 2013 report. But the best deal for you depends on the correct tire being available, an eligible offer being active, and the complete installed price making sense. If your tires need replacement now, do not put it off solely for a possible future sale: the evidence points to periods worth checking, not a guaranteed seasonal low.
