Strong WhatsApp campaigns give people something useful to do in the conversation: answer a short survey, find a product that suits them, follow an event, or create something they want to share. Examples from Coca-Cola, Clarins, Powerade, Amstel, HDFC Home Loans, Bharat Petroleum, and Swiggy show how those interactions can support research, sales, awareness, service, and retention.

The reported outcomes below come from company and platform case studies, not independent tests or promises of typical performance. Each result belongs to its campaign, audience, geography, period, and measurement method.

These measures are not interchangeable. Completion and conversion describe actions, reach describes exposure, message volume describes activity, and brand-lift measures describe changes measured in a study. Compare each result with the objective it was meant to assess.

1. Coca-Cola: turn a survey into a short conversation

For a Brazil campaign running August through October 2025, Coca-Cola wanted to learn about customer opinions and purchase habits. It used CRM-based audience mapping to segment customers, then built a six-question survey with WhatsApp Flows. The same survey was also delivered by email, and a discount ad that clicked to WhatsApp gave people another way into the survey.

WhatsApp Business reports that completion was 89% higher on WhatsApp than on email. The published case does not state sample sizes or enough methodological detail to independently assess the comparison, so the figure describes this campaign rather than a likely result for other surveys. Read the Coca-Cola case study.

What to learn

  • Use a conversational flow when respondents can answer the questions in a brief, structured exchange.
  • Let segmentation shape a relevant invitation, but keep the task itself clear and manageable.
  • When comparing channels, use the same questions and a meaningful comparison group where practical; report the audience and method alongside the result.

2. Clarins: connect a timely moment to stated preferences

Clarins used National Lipstick Day as a reason to contact customers who had previously opted in. In France, from July 19 to August 1, 2024, recipients chose among three preferences—intense color, glossy, or lip-plumping. Their choice led to a matching video and then to the website for personalized advice. Clarins and its provider WAX compared WhatsApp with identical messages sent by email during the same period.

The WhatsApp Business case reports a 90% open rate, an open rate 4.5 times higher than email, and a conversion rate seven times higher than email. These are company-reported results for the campaign and opted-in audience; the case page cautions that results are self-reported and not identifiably repeatable. Read the Clarins case study.

What to learn

  • Use a calendar moment only when it gives customers a genuine reason to engage.
  • A simple preference question can tailor what follows and reveal what the customer is interested in.
  • Make the audience and comparison explicit: this was an opted-in group receiving identical WhatsApp and email messages, not an unrestricted audience comparison.

3. Powerade and the Brazilian Olympic Committee: build an event companion

For the 2024 Summer Games in Brazil, Powerade and the Brazilian Olympic Committee created Time Brazil, a WhatsApp experience with schedules and results, a medal tracker, athlete information, quizzes, stickers, and the ability to send and receive messages from athletes. People could choose sports and athletes to follow, receive daily updates about those interests, and stop the notifications. WhatsApp Flows supported the in-app experience; photo and video ads on Facebook and Instagram clicked through to WhatsApp.

The case page says the campaign ran June 1–July 31, 2024, reached more than 90 million people, and brought more than 165,000 unique users to Time Brazil. A Meta Brand Lift study reported a 6-point lift in ad recall and a 4.9-point lift in top-of-mind awareness. Reach, experience users, and brand-lift results each describe a different outcome. Read the Powerade case study.

What to learn

  • For an event campaign, useful information can give people a reason to return beyond a product promotion.
  • Let users select the topics or people they want updates about, and give them control over recurring notifications.
  • Measure discovery, actual use, and brand effects separately rather than presenting one as a substitute for another.

4. Amstel: make participation part of the creative

Amstel’s “Yes, I Am” Brazil Pride campaign in June 2024 invited people to submit their own videos, photos, and words through a WhatsApp experience. With conversation platform Blip and video production agency StayFilm, Amstel turned submissions into personalized Reels that participants could share to Instagram or Facebook. Paid placements on Facebook and Instagram sent people into an automated WhatsApp conversation.

WhatsApp Business reports 1.5 million people reached and 65,000 messages exchanged with the brand. A Meta Brand Lift study reported positive ad-recall and message-association findings; the case does not give a numerical lift for those findings. Read the Amstel case study.

What to learn

  • Participation can make a brand idea personal and give the finished content a reason to travel beyond the chat.
  • Build the interaction around a community and purpose with care; this campaign’s Pride context is not a generic creative formula.
  • Distinguish people reached from messages exchanged and from brand-study findings.

5. HDFC Home Loans: move a complex customer task into chat

Meta and Bain’s 2024 Win with Conversations report describes HDFC Home Loans as offering a guided, end-to-end home-loan journey on WhatsApp. The process was intended to provide conditional approval within minutes and was available 24/7. The report gives a 25% conversion rate for customers completing the process on WhatsApp and more than 85,000 unique user interactions per month.

These figures are presented in the report’s business examples; they are not an independently audited estimate of what another lender should expect. See Meta and Bain’s report.

What to learn

  • Chat can support more than acquisition when it helps someone complete a multi-step task.
  • For a consequential process such as a loan application, make the journey’s status and next step understandable at each stage.
  • Conversion among people who complete a process is a different denominator from all people who enter or interact with it.

6. Bharat Petroleum: provide support in customers’ languages

Meta and Bain’s 2024 report describes Bharat Petroleum using AI-based customer support in 13 Indian regional languages. It reports more than 200 million messages exchanged through August 2023 and says 45% of conversations were in regional languages.

The figures are those presented in the Meta and Bain report, not a standalone independent audit. They illustrate the role of language access in a high-volume service channel; message volume alone does not show resolution quality or customer satisfaction. See Meta and Bain’s report.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to learn

  • Language support can be central to customer service, not merely a marketing personalization feature.
  • Pair volume measures with service-quality measures such as successful resolution if evaluating a support program; the cited report figures alone do not establish those outcomes.

7. Swiggy: use recent intent to make follow-up relevant

Meta and Bain’s 2024 report describes Swiggy using personalized engagement, including influencer videos for food items related to customers’ recent searches. It reports customer engagement 2.3 times higher than on other channels and dormant-customer activation 1.5 times better than on other channels.

Those figures come from secondary research and Bain analysis as presented in the report, not independently verified causal estimates. They describe a comparison reported for Swiggy, not a guaranteed effect of adding personalized messages. See Meta and Bain’s report.

What to learn

  • Use a recent customer signal to make a follow-up timely and relevant rather than sending a generic offer.
  • Separate ongoing engagement from reactivating dormant customers; each needs its own definition and measurement window.

How to design a WhatsApp campaign from these examples

  1. Choose the customer task. Decide whether the conversation should gather an opinion, guide a product choice, deliver event information, invite creative participation, resolve a support need, or help complete a transaction.
  2. Choose an appropriate entry point. The cases use previously opted-in recipients, paid ads that click to WhatsApp, or an existing customer journey. These are different routes to the conversation; do not assume that an ad click and a marketing opt-in are the same thing.
  3. Ask for the least information needed. Coca-Cola used six survey questions, Clarins asked for one product preference, and Time Brazil let people select interests. Keep the response effort proportionate to what the customer gets in return.
  4. Make the next step useful. A response should lead to something concrete: a tailored video, relevant advice, a tracker or update, a personalized creation, support, or progress through a customer task.
  5. Give people control where messages recur. Time Brazil allowed users to stop daily updates. Set clear expectations about ongoing messages and provide a clear way to stop them.
  6. Set the success measure before launch. For a survey, measure completion; for product guidance, conversion; for an event experience, reach and active users; for service, resolution; for retention, reactivation. Avoid treating clicks, message volume, reach, and conversion as equivalent.
  7. Report the comparison and context. Record geography, campaign dates, who was contacted, how people entered, what comparison was used, and how each metric was calculated. Attribute case-study outcomes to the publisher and brand, and do not present them as typical results.

What the examples do—and do not—show

Together, the campaigns show several distinct uses for WhatsApp: structured research, preference-led product discovery, event utility, user-created content, transaction completion, multilingual support, and relevant customer re-engagement. The transferable idea is to make the interaction serve a real customer task and to fit the message, flow, and measure to that task.

The performance figures remain campaign-specific. WhatsApp Business case pages publish brand stories and caution that outcomes are self-reported and not identifiably repeatable. Meta and Bain’s report presents business examples, including some figures based on secondary research and Bain analysis. Neither type of evidence establishes a result that another organization should expect.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some examples of WhatsApp marketing campaigns?

Coca-Cola used a WhatsApp survey, Clarins offered preference-based lipstick guidance, Powerade and the Brazilian Olympic Committee built an event companion, and Amstel invited people to create personalized Reels. Meta and Bain’s report also describes WhatsApp use for home-loan journeys, multilingual support, and personalized customer engagement.

Which WhatsApp campaign example is focused on customer service?

Bharat Petroleum is the clearest service example in the cited cases: Meta and Bain’s 2024 report describes AI-based support in 13 Indian regional languages. Its published figures are message volume and language share, not a measure of resolution quality.

Can WhatsApp campaigns outperform email?

Two cited cases report comparisons: Coca-Cola reported higher survey completion on WhatsApp than email in its 2025 Brazil campaign, and Clarins reported higher open and conversion rates than identical email messages in its 2024 France campaign. Those case results do not establish that WhatsApp will outperform email for every audience or objective.

Are the reported campaign results guaranteed or typical?

No. The WhatsApp Business case pages identify their results as self-reported and not identifiably repeatable. Meta and Bain’s figures should likewise be attributed to the report and its stated basis, rather than treated as independently audited forecasts for another campaign.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should a WhatsApp campaign measure?

Choose a metric tied to the goal: completion for research, conversion for a purchase or application journey, active users for an experience, resolution for support, or reactivation for dormant customers. Reach and message volume can add context but do not measure those outcomes by themselves.
