The chained outhouse at Braithwaite Manor contains Gertrude Braithwaite, a hidden member of the family. The encounter is known as “Braithwaite’s Secret,” and what you see can depend on when you visit.
What’s inside? (Spoilers)
During Arthur’s story, Gertrude is inside the locked structure. You can hear a person speaking from within; it is not a stash or an ordinary bathroom scene. The game’s story context identifies her as part of the Braithwaite family.

Where to find the chained outhouse
Look on the grounds of Braithwaite Manor, near the small outbuildings and toward the edge of the estate. References place it by a small group of buildings, but do not establish a dependable distance or precise map coordinate, so use the outbuildings as your landmark rather than relying on an exact compass direction.

How the story identifies Gertrude
The encounter is often called “Braithwaite’s Secret.” Penelope’s story interaction identifies Gertrude as her cousin, connecting the person heard in the outhouse to the Braithwaite family. The encounter itself and the explanation of their relationship come through different parts of the game’s story.

What changes on an epilogue revisit?
Secondary game guides report that a later visit during the epilogue can show Gertrude’s remains inside instead of the living encounter associated with Arthur’s story. Treat that as a reported later-story state: the available references do not establish the precise trigger or confirm identical behavior for every save or version.
The sources describe no way to open the outhouse and rescue Gertrude. They also do not establish a canonical explanation for why she is confined or for the words she repeats, so those interpretations should not be treated as confirmed story facts.
