PS5 Pro Linux support is not listed in the reviewed public documentation for the ps5-linux project. Its README names PS5 Phat and Slim models on specified firmware versions, but not PS5 Pro. Sony’s official materials likewise do not document Linux as a compatible PS5 Pro use. That is a statement about published documentation—not proof that no private or future work exists.
Before buying hardware or following instructions written for another PS5 model, check the exact console model and firmware against the project’s current support list. Storage or peripheral compatibility alone does not establish that a Linux exploit or installation method works on PS5 Pro.

Does the ps5-linux project support PS5 Pro?
Not according to the project README reviewed for this article. Its published compatibility list names PS5 Phat and Slim models and specifies supported firmware releases from 3.00 through selected versions up to 7.61; it does not name PS5 Pro. The list is community-maintained and may change, so check the current ps5-linux README before acting.

Compatibility is specific to the console model and firmware combination. A guide that works on a listed Phat or Slim model is not evidence that the same method works on a Pro, even if the consoles share ports, storage options, or other hardware features.

Why M.2 and USB compatibility do not prove Linux compatibility
Sony documents M.2 SSD installation and transfer for PS5 Pro, as well as its USB-C and USB-A ports, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi. Those are supported hardware and setup details—not evidence of a Linux boot path or a working exploit. Sony’s PS5 Pro compatibility page covers selected accessories such as stands, disc drives, and covers; it does not list Linux support.
The ps5-linux README separately describes optional M.2 storage for certain firmware on the Phat and Slim models it lists. That statement concerns those supported configurations and cannot be extended to PS5 Pro. Do not treat an SSD fitting or working in the console as proof that Linux can be installed or run.
What the project’s hardware list does—and does not—tell you
For the models it lists as supported, the README names a USB drive of at least 64 GB, recommends an external SSD, and lists a USB keyboard and mouse. It also describes optional wireless networking through a USB WLAN adapter and connecting a DualSense controller with a Bluetooth dongle. These are project instructions for its documented hardware, not a validated PS5 Pro shopping list.
Because Pro support is not listed, buying those items specifically for a PS5 Pro Linux attempt would be a bet on unverified compatibility. The reviewed documentation does not establish that the listed accessories, exploit flow, or payload method works on the Pro.

Understand Sony’s software terms and update warnings
Sony’s US PS5 System Software License Agreement restricts use of unauthorized, illegal, counterfeit, or modified hardware or software with System Software. It also restricts bypassing or circumventing PS5 encryption, security, or authentication mechanisms, reinstalling earlier system software, and exploiting System Software outside the permitted use described in the agreement. Sony states that these restrictions apply to the greatest extent permitted by the user’s jurisdiction; the agreement is not a basis for a universal legal conclusion about every location or circumstance.
The agreement also says updates may include security patches that prevent access to unauthorized content or use of unauthorized hardware or software. Sony warns that updates may change settings, cause data or content loss, or remove functionality or features, and recommends regularly backing up data that can be backed up. The project README recommends disabling automatic updates as part of its method for supported systems, but that advice is not an assurance of safety or compatibility on PS5 Pro.
A practical check before considering a Linux project
- Identify the exact console. Confirm that the system is a PS5 Pro, not a Phat or Slim model covered by a guide.
- Check the installed firmware. Compare the exact version with the project’s current, model-specific compatibility list.
- Look for an explicit Pro entry. If PS5 Pro and the relevant firmware are not listed, treat compatibility as unestablished rather than inferred.
- Separate hardware support from operating-system support. Sony’s M.2 or USB documentation addresses those features, not Linux installation or exploit compatibility.
- Consider data and terms before changing software behavior. Read Sony’s license and update warnings, and do not assume a particular warranty or legal outcome from the available documents.
What is known—and what is not
Sony introduced PS5 Pro in 2024 as a higher-performance console, stating that it had 67% more GPU compute units and 28% faster memory than the then-current PS5, and that gameplay rendering could be up to 45% faster. These are Sony’s own comparisons, not independent benchmark results, and they do not indicate Linux compatibility. Sony also announced a 2 TB SSD at launch. Those specifications do not change the central compatibility check: the reviewed ps5-linux list names Phat and Slim models, not Pro.

Sony’s official support pages do not document Linux as a compatible use, while the community README may change over time. A missing entry is a reason not to assume support—not proof that no one has attempted or may later develop a method.
