To use a Windows 11 PC as the receiving screen, install the Wireless Display optional feature on that PC, configure Settings > System > Projecting to this PC so it can be discovered, and keep the Wireless Display app open while connecting. Wi-Fi must be on. This is different from casting from a PC to a TV: for that direction, the destination display must support Miracast, or use a compatible Miracast adapter.
First, identify which PC or display is receiving the projection
“Projecting to this PC” means another device sends its screen to the Windows PC. In the second common setup, the Windows PC sends its screen to a TV, projector, or other external display. The requirements differ by direction; Microsoft documents both workflows in its screen mirroring and projection instructions.

Set up a Windows 11 PC to receive a projection
- On the receiving PC, open Settings > System > Projecting to this PC.
- If prompted to add the Wireless Display optional feature, open Optional features, choose View features, search for Wireless Display, select it, and install it.
- Return to Projecting to this PC and set the projection preferences to allow the PC to be discovered.
- Search the taskbar for Wireless Display and launch the app. Keep it running while the other device connects.
- On the sending PC, press Windows key + K and choose the receiving PC from the list.
Microsoft says the Wireless Display app is available on Windows 11 version 22H2 and later. Its instructions direct users on earlier Windows versions to launch the Connect app. Wireless Display is an optional feature to add; do not assume it is already installed on every Windows 11 PC. Cast from Windows 11 to a TV or projector
For this direction, the receiving TV or projector must support Miracast. Turn on the display, make sure Miracast is enabled on it, then press Windows key + K on the sending PC and select the display. Microsoft notes that Windows may instead direct you to connect a wired display if the PC does not support Miracast.

- App Limitations: Please be aware that certain apps with "HDCP" protocol, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos, Hulu, Comcast TV, Xfinity, Vudu, Sky Go, BT Sport, may not be supported due to copyright protection.
If the external display does not support Miracast, a compatible Miracast adapter plugged into HDMI is a documented workaround. An adapter is not a general requirement for projecting to another Windows PC. Adapter setup can also require USB power; check the specific adapter’s compatibility and power instructions. Microsoft’s guidance covers casting and Miracast support and wireless display adapter setup.
If the receiving PC or display does not appear
Work through the setup and compatibility checks before assuming a particular Wi-Fi or graphics specification is required. Microsoft’s wireless display troubleshooting guidance recommends these checks:

- Just plug in the adapter, power, and connect to the ScreenCast 4K to start Miracast casting. AirPlay and Google Cast (Chromecast) require Wi-Fi configuration. Please follow the setup instructions in the manual.
- Confirm Miracast support where relevant. For casting to a TV or projector, verify that the display supports Miracast or that a compatible adapter is attached. Check that the Windows PC also supports Miracast.
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the Windows PC.
- For a PC receiver, check its setup. Confirm Wireless Display is installed, the app is launched, and Projecting to this PC permits discovery.
- Update device drivers and display firmware. If an adapter is used, check for current adapter firmware too.
- Restart and reconnect. Restart the PC and wireless display. If the display was paired before, remove the saved device under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices and pair again.
Microsoft’s guidance does not establish a universal Wi-Fi generation, network band, router configuration, graphics chipset, or driver version that guarantees Miracast. If the PC reports that it does not support Miracast, or connection still fails after these checks, consult the PC manufacturer’s driver and compatibility information.
