What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no special upload-speed requirement just because a bhajan stream runs 24/7. The key number is your encoder’s outgoing bitrate, which depends on the video codec, resolution and frame rate. For YouTube’s recommended H.264 settings, that is 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 or 60 fps, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Your connection must sustain the total stream bitrate, including audio, while leaving capacity for other network use.
Start with the video settings, not the length of the broadcast
YouTube’s live encoder guidance sets recommended bitrate by codec, resolution and frame rate—not by whether the program lasts an hour or runs continuously. A 24/7 schedule does not create a separate bitrate multiplier. The figures below are encoder bitrate recommendations, not promises that an internet plan advertising the same upload speed will deliver a stable stream. YouTube’s live encoder settings recommends testing before you start.
| Ingested video setting | Codec | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | H.264 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 or 60 fps | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | not stated in the cited YouTube table | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | not stated in the cited YouTube table | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | AV1 or H.265/HEVC | not stated in the cited YouTube table | 12 Mbps |
These codec distinctions matter: 6 Mbps at 720p and 10 Mbps at 1080p30 are YouTube’s recommended figures for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, not H.264. Check which codec your encoder actually sends before selecting a target.
How encoder bitrate translates to internet upload speed
YouTube says the total outgoing stream bitrate cannot exceed the upload bandwidth available. Audio is part of that total, and other streams or household or workplace activity share the same connection. The encoder’s configured video bitrate alone therefore does not describe every bit sent upstream. YouTube recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate. YouTube’s streaming tips also advise testing the connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Do not treat the recommended encoder bitrate as a sufficient advertised ISP plan speed. A speed test is a measurement at a point in time, while a 24/7 stream needs sustained capacity under the conditions it will actually run. YouTube does not prescribe a universal percentage of extra headroom in the reviewed guidance, so test rather than relying on an invented multiplier.
Choose a practical setup for a bhajan channel
For an audio-led stream with a devotional image
If your broadcast is genuinely a static image with audio, you may decide that a lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate setup is adequate. The official bitrate table still applies to the precise resolution, frame rate and codec you choose; do not assume every bhajan stream has no motion. If the picture includes performers, changing visuals or other movement, use a realistic preflight with that content.

For sharper video or more motion
Select the intended resolution and frame rate first, then use the matching codec row above. Moving from 720p to 1080p, or from 30 fps to 60 fps, changes the recommended bitrate. A supported AV1 or H.265 encoder may have different recommendations from H.264, but the encoder and ingest setup must support the codec you intend to use.
Set up and test before leaving the stream on
- Set the encoder deliberately. Choose the codec, resolution and frame rate, then set bitrate against YouTube’s row for that combination. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and RTMPS as the secure protocol option. These encoder settings do not substitute for sufficient upload capacity.
- Measure the actual connection. Run a speed test from the same network and, where practical, the same computer or device that will stream. Take competing expected network use into account; other activity consumes shared capacity.
- Run a realistic preflight. Before committing to continuous broadcasting, send a test with the intended audio and visual activity. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream and checking stream health rather than relying only on a speed-test result.
- Watch stream health after launch. If the feed reports instability or drops, compare the configured total bitrate with measured upload performance, check what else is using the connection, and repeat a preflight under the same operating conditions.
YouTube transcodes the incoming live stream into different output formats for viewers. Their playback bandwidth is not added to the broadcaster’s upload requirement. For latency choices, YouTube describes latency as the delay from capture or encoder to viewer playback and notes that lower latency can mean more buffering; it is a separate choice from upload-speed planning. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Connection details that can help—or cannot
- Wired Ethernet: For a fixed streaming workstation, a cable can provide a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi. It cannot increase the upload capacity your ISP supplies.
- Other network activity: Uploads, calls, backups or another live stream can compete for upstream capacity. Include likely concurrent use in the preflight.
- Router or software changes: Better local connectivity may address a local link problem, but no cable, router or software can create ISP upload bandwidth that is not available.
Troubleshoot an unstable 24/7 bhajan stream
- Stream health is poor despite a high advertised plan speed: Run a speed test on the streaming connection and compare its sustained upload result with the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate, including audio. Check again while normal network use is active.
- The stream works at 720p but struggles at 1080p: Verify the codec and the 1080p bitrate target. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation is 14 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60, compared with 8 Mbps at 720p30 or 720p60.
- A bitrate copied from a guide does not match your encoder: Confirm whether the guide’s figure is for H.264 or AV1/H.265. For example, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 at 1080p30, but 14 Mbps for H.264 at the same resolution and frame rate.
- Instability appears only during busy hours or other uploads: Repeat the preflight while those expected activities are happening. The available upload bandwidth is shared; a quiet-time test alone may not reflect normal operation.
- Wi-Fi is inconsistent: If the computer is stationary, try Ethernet as a connectivity change and test again. If the ISP’s upload capacity itself is insufficient, a cable will not solve that limitation.
