Mint Mobile’s Unlimited plan includes up to 20GB of mobile-hotspot data, while using more than 50GB total in a monthly cycle can put your traffic at lower priority when the network is busy. That is not a guaranteed speed cap at 50GB: the impact depends on network congestion, and hotspot use counts toward the 50GB threshold.
How much hotspot data does Mint Unlimited include?
Mint says Unlimited customers can use up to 20GB per monthly cycle for mobile hotspot. That hotspot allowance is separate from the plan’s 50GB threshold for lower network priority: reaching 20GB of hotspot use does not itself mean you have used 50GB overall, but tethered data does count toward the overall total.

Mint says its plans include mobile hotspot and that use draws from the plan’s monthly data amount. Its hotspot help page describes the Unlimited allowance and options for adding data. Mint’s FAQ says a hotspot-capable phone is needed; check that your device is compatible with Mint.

Does Mint slow you down after 50GB?
Mint’s Network Management Policy, last updated June 10, 2026, says Unlimited customers who use more than 50GB in a monthly cycle may have their traffic prioritized below other customers’ traffic for the rest of that cycle, at times and places where network resources are contested. This is conditional deprioritization, not a fixed post-50GB speed limit. Mint does not specify one guaranteed speed after the threshold.

In practice, lower priority can mean slower service when nearby network demand is high. Mint says a customer whose data has lower priority may notice little or no effect when the network is lightly loaded. The priority resets at the next monthly cycle. Mint also says congestion can reduce speeds for customers on any plan, and service may be limited for violations of its terms or acceptable-use rules. Signal, coverage, device compatibility, location, cell-site capacity, weather, interference and other users can all affect actual performance.
Does hotspot data count toward the 50GB threshold?
Yes. Mint explicitly includes tethering in the traffic counted toward the Heavy Data User threshold. So your phone’s on-device use and its hotspot use both contribute to the 50GB monthly total. If you pass 50GB, tethered traffic can also receive lower priority during periods of competing network demand.

Can you add more hotspot data?
Mint’s hotspot help page says Unlimited customers can add hotspot and 5G/4G LTE data in 5GB or 10GB increments, subject to current availability and account terms. It lists the Mint app’s “Buy more data” option, the account page’s UpData option, or a text to 6700 as purchase methods, and says funds must be available in the Mint wallet. Add-on availability and process can change, so confirm them in your account or on Mint’s current help page before buying.
What speeds and video quality does Mint disclose?
Mint’s Network Management Policy publishes typical 5G on-device ranges of 127–455 Mbps download, 6–33 Mbps upload and 15–27 ms latency. These are Mint’s stated typical ranges, not guaranteed speeds or a prediction for a particular address; the policy says results vary with factors such as device, signal, location and capacity.

Mint also says cellular video is optimized to SD quality, typically 480p at up to 1.5 Mbps. This is Mint’s description of its policy, not an independent measurement of what every customer will see.
How is Unlimited different from Mint’s other plans?
Mint describes Unlimited’s first 50GB as high-speed data, but its policy frames what happens above that threshold as lower priority when the network is busy. For non-Unlimited plans, Mint says that after a plan’s specified high-speed allowance, speeds may be reduced to 2G speeds—128 Kbps for most plans—or access may be suspended for the rest of the period, as described in its terms. Those outcomes depend on the plan and the applicable terms.

When comparing plans, look beyond the word “unlimited”: check the included high-speed allowance, whether the provider uses a fixed speed reduction or congestion-based priority, the hotspot allowance and whether tethering counts toward a threshold, video optimization, add-on terms, and coverage where you use the service. - Estimate both phone and hotspot use against the 50GB monthly threshold.
- Confirm whether your phone is compatible and supports mobile hotspot.
- Check coverage and likely performance where you use the service; Mint’s typical 5G ranges do not guarantee local results.
- Review the current hotspot allowance and any available data add-ons in your Mint account.
- Consider whether SD cellular video quality and possible congestion-related slowdowns fit your needs.
