Measure the tallest minifigure and accessory, check the clear depth from the back panel to the front cover, then confirm how figures attach and whether the frame is designed for a wall, a shelf, or both. Capacity, front access, and local stock status vary sharply between products.
Start with the space inside the frame
Exterior dimensions tell you how much wall or shelf area a case occupies; they do not tell you whether a minifigure will fit. A back panel, studded plate, compartment divider, or front cover can reduce the usable room. Before comparing products, write down three measurements: usable interior width, usable interior height, and usable interior depth.

Measure the complete figure, not just the torso
Stand the tallest figure in your planned collection on the mounting surface. Include helmets, wings, backpacks, swords, staffs, capes, animals, and any other accessory that projects upward or forward. Measure from the mounting point to the highest part and from the back of the figure to the furthest point toward the cover. Repeat the depth check with the figure in the exact pose you intend to display.

Leave a little clearance so a door or removable front does not scrape the accessories. A frame that fits a standard figure may fail when you add a large helmet or a character held on a long pole. If the seller gives only external dimensions, ask for the clear internal measurements before ordering.

Depth figures are product-specific
A specialist small-frame design states 4 cm of internal depth and says that it accommodates larger minifigures and accessories. That is a maker specification, not an independently tested universal standard. A separate Minifigures Display Series 26 listing gives 25 × 25 cm external dimensions and 4.5 cm depth; its listing does not establish the same amount of usable depth inside.
Do not treat either number as a general LEGO frame requirement. Internal depth, external depth, and the distance available above a studded base are different measurements.
Choose the attachment method that matches your collection
Studded plates: secure positioning and fixed spacing
LEGO’s 8-Minifigure Display Case – Red 5006151 uses studded plates. Figures attach to studs rather than simply standing on a flat shelf, which helps keep their feet in consistent positions when the case is moved. The case has two levels and separate transparent compartments with doors. Its stated capacity is eight figures, so it is not interchangeable with a larger frame that advertises room for 12.
Studded mounting is useful for a curated lineup with regular spacing. It can be less flexible if your figures use wide bases, unusual poses, or accessories that occupy neighboring studs. Check the spacing between each compartment and the clearance around the studs.
Compartments: individual doors and controlled access
Separate compartments give each figure a defined space and an individual transparent door. This format is practical when you want to open one section without exposing the entire collection. It also limits how freely you can rearrange figures: the compartment dimensions and stud positions determine the layout.

Open or custom layouts: more freedom, more measuring
The Minifigures Display Series 26 frame/case listing says it can hold 12 figures or use a custom layout. A custom interior may suit mixed characters, scene pieces, or figures with unusual accessories, but the advertised count alone does not prove that every 12-figure arrangement will leave equal clearance. Confirm what mounting pieces are supplied and whether the stated capacity assumes a particular arrangement.
Compare the main frame formats
The following examples illustrate different design choices. They are manufacturer or product-listing specifications, not results from comparative testing.

The LEGO case and the Series 26 listing should not be compared as if they use the same format: one specifies eight stud-mounted figures in individual compartments, while the other advertises 12 figures or a custom layout behind a removable plexiglass front.
Decide how much protection and access you need
Individual doors
The LEGO 5006151 design gives each compartment its own transparent door. That arrangement can reduce the amount of the display you expose during a rearrangement and makes one figure easy to reach. It also adds hinges, seams, and compartment boundaries that may interrupt a continuous scene.
Removable plexiglass
The Series 26 listing describes a removable plexiglass front. Removing the entire front can provide broad access for changing a custom layout or cleaning, while requiring you to handle and store a larger panel during the change. The listing does not establish scratch resistance, impact performance, or a dust seal, so do not infer those properties from the word “plexiglass.”

Open shelf versus covered frame
A shelf without a cover gives immediate access but leaves figures exposed to dust, accidental contact, and household movement. A covered frame creates a physical barrier, but the cover must have enough clearance for the tallest accessory and should be removable or hinged in a way that does not catch the display. Choose based on how often you rearrange the collection and how much exposure your location receives.

Wall mounting
LEGO states that the 5006151 case can be mounted on a wall or placed on a desk or shelf. The Series 26 listing describes a hanging system and freestanding use, and the small-frame description also mentions a hanger. These statements establish the intended display modes, not the suitability of a particular wall, anchor, or load.
Before drilling, check the frame’s supplied hardware and installation instructions. Identify the wall construction, locate a suitable fixing point, and confirm that the fastener head fits the hanger. If the product does not specify hardware, ask the seller which screws, plugs, or anchors are required. Do not assume that a hanger designed for a light frame is appropriate for a heavier case filled with figures.
Shelf or desk placement
For freestanding use, measure the shelf depth against the product’s full exterior depth, including any rear hanger or stand. Keep the base fully supported and place the frame where a door, cable, or nearby object cannot push it forward. A shallow shelf may accommodate the LEGO case’s stated 4 cm depth but still fail if the stand projects beyond the case body.
Stacking
LEGO says its display cases can be stacked to create customized storage. Stacking changes the center of gravity and increases the total load on the bottom case and the supporting surface. Follow the product’s stacking guidance, keep the stack level, and do not extend the statement to unrelated third-party frames unless their maker documents stacking.

Match capacity to the collection you actually have
Count figures and reserve expansion room
Count the figures you want visible now, then decide whether you need space for a second wave. An eight-figure case is efficient for a small, fixed lineup; a 12-figure frame or custom layout leaves more room for a themed display. Extra capacity is not automatically better if it produces empty gaps or forces smaller figures into an awkward arrangement.
Account for bases and scene parts
Some collections use individual plates, animals, weapons, or small builds alongside figures. A compartment designed around one standing minifigure may not fit those additions. Ask whether the interior accepts standard LEGO studs, removable plates, or only the supplied mounting pieces. If a listing says “custom layout,” verify whether customization means movable studs, a different backing board, or simply leaving some positions unused.
Check figure inclusion
The Series 26 listing says figures are not included. Treat capacity as empty display space unless the product description explicitly lists included figures or accessories. This prevents a stated number of figures from being mistaken for contents supplied in the box.
Verify a listing before you buy
- Request internal measurements. Get clear width, height, and depth, not only the outside dimensions. Ask how much depth remains after the backing plate and front cover are installed.
- Confirm the mounting surface. Determine whether figures attach to studs, sit on a flat base, use a supplied insert, or require your own plates.
- Check the capacity assumption. Ask whether the advertised count includes accessories, wide figures, or a specific arrangement.
- Inspect the front design. Establish whether access is through individual doors, a hinged panel, a removable front, or no cover.
- Confirm installation details. Ask for hanger dimensions, included hardware, maximum recommended load, and any restrictions on wall materials.
- Check what is in the package. Verify whether figures, plates, stands, shelves, and protective film are included.
- Recheck regional availability. Product pages, variants, prices, and stock can differ by country and can change after publication.
How the documented LEGO examples differ
LEGO 8-Minifigure Display Case – Red 5006151
This official LEGO case is the clearest option when you want a compact, structured arrangement: eight figures, studded plates, two levels, and individual transparent doors. LEGO reports dimensions of more than 18 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. Its stated wall-or-surface flexibility and stacking capability suit a modular display, but the case’s eight-position format limits custom scene building.
Availability and price are regional and volatile. The Switzerland product page supplies the specifications above; check the LEGO store for your market rather than assuming that the same variant is sold everywhere.

Minifigures Display Series 26
This specialist third-party frame is aimed at a larger or more flexible arrangement. The listing gives 25 × 25 cm external dimensions, 4.5 cm depth, capacity for 12 figures or a custom layout, a removable plexiglass front, and either hanging or freestanding use. Because the dimensions are external and the front is removable, you should obtain the clear interior measurements before committing to figures with bulky accessories.
Small-frame design
The manufacturer’s small-frame description gives 4 cm internal depth and says it accommodates larger minifigures and accessories. It also mentions a hanger. Those are maker claims rather than independent measurements, so confirm the usable height, width, attachment method, and included hardware for the exact version.

LEGO describes this frame for common photo formats and says it may display a minifigure collection. Its stated dimensions are more than 26 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. It is not specified as an eight- or 12-compartment case, so plan your own interior arrangement and verify clearance. On the accessed Norway page, variants were marked retired, sold out, or out of stock; that status does not establish availability in other countries.
