A reliable setup starts with the decisions the report should support, maps each metric to a source, and makes its joins and attribution rules visible. Without verified details about which reports the title’s author replaced or what changed afterward, this is best treated as a practical reporting pattern—not a personal success story or a claim of time saved.
Decide what the combined report needs to answer
Start with recurring decisions, not a wish to fit every available chart onto one screen. For example, a marketing overview might help a team see whether site visibility, visits, and paid-channel activity are moving in ways that warrant investigation. The exact measures depend on the team’s goals and the data it can define consistently.

Keep the opening view focused on a small set of decision-relevant measures. Put channel-specific diagnosis—such as campaign, query, or landing-page detail—in separate tabs or sections. A consolidated overview with dedicated advertising tabs is one pattern described in Promodo’s MasterZoo case study, rather than forcing every dimension into a crowded screen: Promodo’s MasterZoo case study.

Before connecting sources, write down what each KPI means and where it comes from. Two measures with similar labels may represent different events, scopes, or attribution rules. A shared dashboard is a presentation layer, not a guarantee that platform numbers reconcile.
#1 Best Overall
| Before blending | What to document |
|---|---|
| Metric definition | What event or activity is counted, and what is excluded? |
| Date and reporting scope | Which date range, time zone, property, campaign, or other scope applies? |
| Dimensions and join keys | Which fields identify matching rows across sources, and at what level of detail? |
| Currency and conversions | Which currency is used, and how is a conversion defined in each platform? |
| Refresh timing | How often does each source update, and could the displayed periods be incomplete? |
Record these definitions alongside the report or in documentation available to its users. If a field has no reliable counterpart in another source, do not imply that the values can be joined cleanly.
Connect sources with a deliberate join
Looker Studio supports blending data from multiple sources in charts, tables, and controls. Google Search Central Search Advocate Daniel Waisberg described the feature on March 22, 2023, noting that it can include Search Console data. Google’s documented workflow is to create the sources, select a chart or table in a report, choose to blend data, add another source, configure the join, and select matching fields. Its examples include adding URL metadata or query groupings to Search Console reporting. See Google’s introduction to Looker Studio.
- Create a source for each platform or dataset the report needs.
- Select a chart or table in the report and choose the data-blending option.
- Add the second source and configure the join using fields that genuinely match.
- Check the resulting rows and totals against the source reports before sharing the view.
A join only combines records according to the fields and granularity you provide. It cannot repair missing data, incompatible definitions, or mismatched levels of detail. A dashboard that joins campaign-level data to session-level data, for example, needs an explicit design for how those rows relate; otherwise totals may be misleading.
Check Search Console’s impression aggregation
Google Cloud’s Search Console connector documentation surfaced a specific constraint: a source uses either site-impression or URL-impression aggregation, not both. To place the two methods side by side, create two sources for the same property, one per aggregation method. The connector guidance also identifies Google Analytics and Google Ads as possible additional sources. Because the live help page was not available for confirmation here, check Google’s current connector documentation before relying on this setup detail: Google Cloud’s Search Console connector documentation.

Make channel credit understandable
If the dashboard assigns conversions or revenue to channels, state the attribution rule beside the measure. A session-source view answers which source was associated with a session; a last-non-direct-click rule assigns credit according to a different model. Those views can produce different channel credit, and neither alone proves that a channel caused the conversion.
Promodo’s MasterZoo case study describes a setup combining GA4, Google Ads, and Meta Ads, with data consolidated in BigQuery and daily updates. It reports session-source reporting for basic source views and last-non-direct-click logic for channel credit. This is an example from another business, not a transferable benchmark or evidence about the author of this article: Promodo’s MasterZoo case study.

Choose the right architecture for the sources
Native blending may be enough for a modest report whose sources and join keys are supported. A broader cross-platform report can require a separate pipeline or warehouse; the MasterZoo example uses BigQuery rather than simply placing unrelated charts together. Choose based on the actual sources, their refresh needs, the complexity of their dimensions, and whether the team can maintain the data flow.

- Check whether each source is available directly or requires a connector or warehouse.
- Confirm refresh latency and whether that cadence fits the decisions users need to make.
- Test for duplicate rows, incompatible dimensions, and totals that change after blending.
- Make attribution and metric definitions visible to readers.
- Consider recurring connector or infrastructure costs before committing to an approach.
Keep the dashboard useful after launch
Validate the combined view against each underlying report using the same dates, filters, scope, and definitions. Ask a user to follow the report from an overview measure to the detail needed to investigate a change. If the first screen is hard to scan, move diagnostic charts into separate views rather than adding more measures to it.
Best Value
Judge the report by whether it supports the intended decisions and whether users understand its limits. The available examples establish practical approaches to blending and pipeline-based reporting, but do not establish that this article’s author replaced three particular reports, saved a specific amount of time, or achieved a business result.
