Hoxhunt, KnowBe4, and Proofpoint ZenGuide are worth evaluating for different combinations of adaptive learning, simulations, coaching, and compliance content. Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2 is an adjacent option when attack simulations within an existing Microsoft email-security environment are a priority. These distinctions reflect vendor feature descriptions, not independent comparative testing.
The right choice depends on what “personalized” means for your program: role-based assignments, training adapted to observed behavior or risk, or content tailored to your organization. Use those requirements—not vendor rankings—to build a shortlist and request comparable, current quotes.

What should a personalized training platform do?
Personalization is not one feature. A platform may tailor learning to job role or location, adjust simulation difficulty and cadence based on user behavior, or let administrators adapt content to internal policies. Ask vendors which inputs actually change an employee’s assignment, how administrators can inspect and govern those rules, and whether the adjustments apply to both training and simulations.

Assess the platform as part of a continuing cybersecurity and privacy learning program, rather than as a way to deliver a single annual module. NIST’s Building a Cybersecurity and Privacy Learning Program (SP 800-50 Rev. 1, September 2024) supersedes the 2003 edition and describes a customizable lifecycle intended for organizations of different sizes. It connects learning to risk management and behavior change, with regular evaluation and updates as needs evolve. NIST says, “The guidance also includes suggested metrics and evaluation methods to regularly improve and update the program as needs evolve.” Read NIST SP 800-50 Rev. 1.

How do the platforms differ?
The following are vendor-described capabilities, not independently verified results. They are not a like-for-like comparison: products may differ in scope, editions, integrations, and implementation requirements.
Hoxhunt
Hoxhunt describes adaptive phishing simulations and learning paths personalized using factors such as skill level, role, location, and behavior, along with immediate micro-training. Its product page advertises more than 300 training modules and regulatory tracks including PCI DSS, HIPAA, DORA, and GDPR. Those library and track descriptions do not establish legal sufficiency for an organization’s obligations.
Rank #2
The page also displays “13 hrs” saved per week on training operations and “90%+” end-user satisfaction. These are Hoxhunt marketing claims; the page excerpt provides no methodology, sample, or independent validation, so treat them as claims rather than expected outcomes. Hoxhunt says pricing depends on license count and service level; request a quote. See Hoxhunt’s employee security awareness training details.
KnowBe4
KnowBe4 describes a broader platform covering security awareness training, threat simulation, real-time coaching, and compliance training. Its product roadmap lists H1 2026 plans for a unified console and real-time coaching via orchestration. A roadmap entry is not confirmation that a feature is generally available; check the vendor for current release status and whether it is included in the edition being quoted. Proofpoint ZenGuide
Proofpoint describes automatic enrollment in personalized training, learning paths that adapt to behavior, performance, and risk, and human-risk insights intended to identify groups for intervention. These are product feature descriptions, not proof of comparative effectiveness. The cited page does not provide standardized pricing or an independent outcome comparison. See Proofpoint’s risk-based security awareness training details.
Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2
Microsoft describes Plan 2 as adding cyberattack simulation training, hunting, and automation to Plan 1. Simulation training sits within the broader Defender for Office 365 email-security offering, making it an adjacent option if that environment is already central to your security operations. Confirm current regional packaging and license eligibility, and check whether its learning scope meets needs beyond simulations.
Rank #4
Microsoft’s US product page displayed Plan 1 at $2 per user per month, paid yearly, when indexed. That is a volatile Plan 1 price—not Plan 2 pricing, a current quote, or a directly comparable price for a standalone awareness platform. How should you compare candidates?
Use a consistent evaluation across platforms so differences in feature names do not obscure practical fit. Ask for demonstrations based on your roles, learning goals, email environment, and program administration needs.
Best Value
- Personalization logic: Identify the learner data, role, behavior, or risk indicators that affect assignments. Ask how administrators can review and govern the logic.
- Training and simulation: Compare short coaching, courses, campaigns, and phishing simulations. Check whether administrators can configure frequency and difficulty.
- Role and compliance fit: Map content and assignments to job responsibilities, jurisdictions, and applicable obligations. A vendor’s regulatory track list does not prove that training meets legal requirements.
- Content ownership: Find out whether your team can adapt internal policies and procedures into training, review generated content, and control what gets published.
- Measurement: Ask how the platform defines and reports learning, reporting behavior, repeat errors, and relevant risk indicators—not just completion rates. Confirm that the measures can guide program improvements.
- Administration and integration: Verify identity provisioning, email and reporting integrations, LMS workflows, deployment effort, and the staff time needed to maintain campaigns.
- Operational requirements: Confirm data handling and retention, accessibility, language coverage, support, and geographic availability for your organization.
- Price and scope: Request a current quote for the right employee count, service tier, integrations, and support. No comparable cross-vendor pricing is established by the cited materials.
How can you choose a shortlist?
- Write down the program goal. Specify whether you need role-based learning, adaptive simulations, behavior-linked coaching, compliance coverage, or a combination.
- Map requirements to product scope. Consider Hoxhunt, KnowBe4, and Proofpoint ZenGuide for their vendor-described combinations of adaptive learning, simulation, content, and coaching. Consider Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2 when simulation inside the Microsoft security environment is a priority, then check whether that scope covers your broader learning needs.
- Test fit with your own scenarios. Ask vendors to show how an assignment changes for the roles, risk indicators, internal policies, and workflows you actually use. Verify any roadmap feature or edition-specific capability directly.
- Compare implementation and total quotes. Include licensing, required integrations, support, administration effort, and the work needed to maintain content and campaigns.
- Define how you will evaluate the program. Select measures tied to learning, reporting, repeat errors, and relevant risk indicators, and establish how results will inform updates.
What the available evidence cannot establish
The cited materials do not establish a universal winner, independently measured behavior change, current comparable prices, or equivalent feature coverage across these options. Contract terms, exact edition limits, integrations, data retention, accessibility, language support, and geographic availability need confirmation for your organization. Vendor feature descriptions and marketing figures should not be treated as independent evidence that one platform produces better outcomes.
