It could make reference-and-writing tasks easier, but the five-app figure is the manufacturer’s claim—not an independent benchmark—and not every app gets a live preview.
What is Origin Workbench on the vivo X Fold5?
vivo places Origin Workbench in the X Fold5’s AI Smart Office suite. It is designed to keep apps accessible while you work, for example when taking notes or summarizing a meeting without repeatedly switching between tabs. vivo’s product page describes the feature and its supported preview behavior.

How many apps can it run at once?
In its 2025 India launch announcement, vivo said Origin Workbench can run up to five apps at once. That is a manufacturer-published capability, not a measured performance result. The figure also does not mean that all five apps will always appear as live, interactive previews: vivo says preview support is limited and not all apps are supported. Read vivo India’s announcement.
What happens to app previews?
The X Fold5 product page says Workbench supports limited previews for audio, video, and game apps. In some combinations, a maximum of two audio/video or game apps can be previewed in real time as origin windows. vivo also warns that high temperature, low memory, or low battery can cause all origin-window previews to be replaced by screenshots. A screenshot may keep content visible, but it is not the same as a live app window.

What might it help you do?
TechRadar reviewer Prakhar Khanna described using Workbench to refer to search material in Chrome with a quick tap and continue writing in a document. That is one reviewer’s reported workflow, not a guarantee that every app combination behaves the same way. It illustrates the feature’s practical appeal: keeping reference material close while working in another app.
Is it really the X Fold5’s “best” feature?
Workbench has a clear productivity use case, especially for people who move between reference material and a document. But the available evidence does not establish that it is objectively the best foldable multitasking feature, or that few people know about it. There is no controlled, like-for-like comparison here across foldable phones. To judge it for your own use, consider whether your apps are supported, how many remain live and interactive, and whether quick access suits your workflow.

What did the X Fold5 cost in India at launch?
In a 2025 sale announcement, vivo India listed the 16 GB RAM / 512 GB storage X Fold5 variant at INR 149,999. This was a historical India-specific price, not a current-price quote or a statement of availability in other regions. See vivo India’s sale announcement.
