Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFirst, find out whether just one restaurant location closed or the company stopped operating altogether. Contact the gift-card issuer through its official website or customer-service channel, and confirm whether the balance can be used at another location, online, or with a successor business. Get any deadline and the remaining balance in writing.
Find out what the closure means for your card
A card issued by a restaurant chain may still work at its other locations even if the branch near you has closed. Ask the company directly whether the card is accepted at specific locations or through online ordering. If the entire company has shut down, redemption is far less certain.

Use the issuer’s official website or customer-service contact details, not an old balance page or an unverified social-media post. Ask the company to confirm:
- The card’s remaining balance.
- Which locations or ordering channels accept it.
- Whether a successor business will honor it.
- Any deadline or other conditions for using it.
Michigan’s consumer guidance recommends contacting the merchant and checking its website; it also notes that a competitor may accept a card or a merchant may resume acceptance later. Neither possibility is assured. Michigan Department of Attorney General guidance

Another location or online ordering
Ask the issuer whether the card works at other branches or for online orders. Confirm the specific location or channel before making a trip or placing an order.
A successor or competitor
If another business has taken over the site or offered to accept the card, verify that directly with the business and ask whether there are limits or a deadline. Do not assume a new tenant or competitor has taken on the original restaurant’s gift-card obligations.

A company in bankruptcy
A business in bankruptcy may still honor gift cards, and a competitor may choose to accept them, but neither outcome is guaranteed. The Federal Trade Commission explains that federal rules for covered gift cards limit expiration dates and certain fees; those protections do not ensure that a closed business can pay what it owes. If you bought the gift card with a credit card, contact that card issuer promptly and ask whether it can review a dispute or refund request. Eligibility and outcomes depend on the transaction, timing, and issuer; this is not a guaranteed remedy. On October 8, 2025, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General made this recommendation to consumers with unused Iron Hill Brewery cards after the company closed all its restaurant locations and filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in New Jersey. Your rights can depend on the state, the card’s terms, how and when it was purchased, and whether a bankruptcy court has issued an order affecting gift cards or claims. The FTC’s gift-card protections concern expiration and fee terms for covered cards; they do not by themselves require a failed restaurant to reimburse cardholders. Check with the relevant state consumer office and, if the company is in bankruptcy, consult official case information for any claim instructions or deadlines. The available facts about a particular card are necessary to determine whether a state-law remedy or bankruptcy claim applies.
