1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf monkeys enter your farm, keep your distance, stay calm, and give them a clear way to leave. Do not feed, approach, corner, touch, or try to chase them. Keep other people and pets away. If anyone is bitten or scratched, wash the wound with soap and running water for 15 minutes and seek medical advice promptly. For repeated crop losses, record each raid and work with local wildlife or agricultural authorities to choose measures suited to your species, crops, farm layout, and local rules.
What to do while monkeys are on the farm
- Move people and pets away. Keep children, workers, and animals at a safe distance; do not approach monkeys, including young ones.
- Stay calm and leave an exit. Do not corner or handle the animals, throw food or objects, make loud noises, or try to drive them out at close range. Let them move away on their own.
- Do not offer food. Avoid eating in front of monkeys, and never feed them. Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) also advises avoiding direct eye contact because it may be perceived as provocative behavior. This is Hong Kong government guidance, not a guarantee that every species will react identically.
- Get local help if needed. Contact your local wildlife authority if the monkeys remain, repeatedly return, or pose an immediate threat. Follow local instructions on reporting and response; do not assume another country’s emergency number or wildlife rules apply where you live.
AFCD’s advice is specific to Hong Kong. A Hong Kong government release dated 4 April 2024 quoted an AFCD spokesman: “When encountering monkeys, members of the public should avoid eating in front of monkeys, and avoid direct eye contact with monkeys to prevent it from being perceived as a provocative behaviour.” Hong Kong Government Information Services.

What to do after a monkey bite or scratch
- Wash the wound immediately with soap and running water for 15 minutes.
- Seek medical advice promptly, even if the wound looks small. A clinician or public-health authority can assess the injury and the animal-related risks.
- Follow professional advice on treatment. Depending on the species, location, wound severity, local rabies epidemiology, and the animal’s vaccination status, a clinician may consider rabies post-exposure treatment, antibiotics, or tetanus vaccination. Do not try to judge rabies risk from the monkey’s appearance. WHO guidance on animal bites.
The World Health Organization says monkey bites account for 2–21% of animal bite injuries. That wide range is not a local probability or an estimate of the share of injuries on farms. WHO fact sheet on animal bites.

How to reduce repeat crop losses
No single deterrent is established as effective for every farm. Crop, primate species, terrain, access routes, installation, maintenance, labor, and local wildlife rules all affect whether a measure is practical. Treat barriers, repellents, and active guarding as options to assess locally—not as guarantees.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Effectively Drive Away Animals】Once the advanced motion sensor detects animals nearby, the deer repellent devices activate, emitting strong ultrasonic sounds and flashing LED strobe lights. The ultra-powerful sonic & light scare animals away and effectively deter them from your protected area in a peaceful way.
- 【Wide Coverage & Most Target Species】Features an infrared detection angle of up to 150 degrees and a detection range of 25-30 feet. The cat repellent outdoor effectively repels deer, cat, dog, squirrel, rabbit, raccoon and more. As soon as an animal is detected approaching, the deer repellent starts working. Designed for your animals control.
- 【Easy to Use & Works Anywhere】Simply assemble the raccoon repellent and place it in areas frequented by animals, positioning it approximately 9-10 inches above the ground. Two hanging holes also allow for mounting on trees or fences. It works effectively in farms, gardens, yards, orchards, lawns, vegetable patches, and various other outdoor settings.
- 【Solar Powered & IP65 Waterproof】The squirrel repellent can be charged with solar energy to achieve energy saving and environmental protection. For the first using, charge the solar panel in direct sunlight for 2 days. The animal repellent outdoor is made of durable ABS material with the special IP65 waterproof, exsuring normal use in any extreme weather conditions.
- 【Operation Guide】Blue light indicates that it is charging and red light indicates that it is working. Once turned ON, the red light and ultrasonic signal will activate for 15s. Among the time there is sound waves for 2.5s and LED light flashing at the begining. Following the activation, it will move to stand-by mode till PIR sensor detected motion.

| Approach | What the evidence indicates | What to assess locally |
|---|---|---|
| Guarding | Can help deter crop raiding, but requires time and labor. | Who can guard, when raids occur, and whether the labor cost is sustainable. |
| Fences and other barriers | Some trials reduced crop-foraging or losses, while other fence and hedge configurations had limited or mixed effects. | Design, materials, installation, repair, animal entry points, and impacts on farm access and other operations. |
| Plant barriers, trenches, lights, nets, or repellents | These approaches have been assessed in particular settings; results should not be assumed to transfer to a different farm or primate. | Local evidence, upkeep, safety, cost, and whether the method is permitted. |
A 2018 review describes specific trials, including 85% fewer crop-foraging events with one jatropha hedge setup, up to 90% reduction with Ocimum barriers combined with mesh fencing, and 80% lower maize cob losses with a four-strand fence. Those are outcomes from particular study setups, not expected results for another farm; the review also notes that barrier results vary by configuration and setting. 2018 review of crop-raiding deterrents.
A study around Uganda’s Budongo Forest Reserve evaluated guarding and early-warning approaches, fences, plant barriers, trenches, lights, and nets. Farmer preferences and observed maintenance did not always align, a reminder to include local farmers in choosing a method and to check whether it remains maintained over time. If considering a farm fence mesh or agricultural barrier fence, assess the design and installation for your species, crop, and site rather than relying on the product category alone. The cited studies do not establish that one commercial mesh product is suitable everywhere. Ask your wildlife agency or agricultural extension service which designs and deterrents are appropriate and lawful in your area.

In western Uganda, researchers found the number of raiders and raid duration were primary parameters associated with crop loss, and recommended using raid characteristics to assess deterrent effects. Western Uganda crop-raiding study.
Local context matters. A Nepal study published in 2021 examined a group of 52 rhesus macaques and damage in 172 plots during August–October 2019. It associated raid patterns with crop type, proximity to forest and macaque travel routes, and mitigation efforts. The authors estimated a mean cost of US$14.9, or 4.2% of annual household income from maize and rice cultivation, for the households and crops studied. Those figures describe that Nepal sample and period, not a general or current estimate for other farmers. Nepal study of rhesus macaque crop raiding.

Check local disease guidance and wildlife rules
Species, disease risks, reporting channels, and rules for deterring, capturing, or removing wildlife differ by location. Contact your local wildlife authority for encounter and reporting instructions, and your agricultural extension service for crop-protection advice. For any bite or scratch, ask a local clinician or public-health authority to assess the disease risks and treatment needed. Do not use legal guidance from another jurisdiction as a substitute: for example, the cited Indiana and California resources describe those states only.
