Unplug the cable and stop trying wired charging while the Samsung phone or its charging port may be wet. The moisture warning is a safety measure, not proof that the phone was submerged: humidity can trigger it too. Let the port dry completely and wait for the warning to clear before connecting a cable.
What to do first
- Disconnect the charger. Do not keep reconnecting the cable or try to override the moisture warning.
- Dry the outside. Wipe the phone with a soft, dry cloth. Point the charging port down and gently shake the device to help release moisture.
- Let the port air-dry. Leave the phone in a well-ventilated place. A fan or cool air can help. Do not use external heat or put tissue, swabs, tools, or other objects into the port.
- Wait for the port to be completely dry. Try wired charging only after the moisture alert has cleared.
Samsung UK estimates that moisture in the port may evaporate in approximately one to two hours, while Samsung India says drying can take several hours. These are estimates, not a recovery guarantee; conditions vary, so rely on the port being dry and the alert clearing rather than a fixed wait time. Can you charge it wirelessly while the port dries?
Only if your Galaxy model supports wireless charging and the entire phone is thoroughly dry. Samsung says to dry the device before placing it on a charging pad; follow the model manual for compatibility and correct alignment. Wireless charging is not a reason to place a wet phone on a pad. When moisture is detected in the charging port, Samsung may stop wired charging to help protect the device from damage. A water-drop alert can also appear in high humidity, so the alert alone does not establish that the phone was submerged. If the phone is dry but the warning remains
Restart the phone
Once the device and port are dry, restart the phone and check whether the warning clears. Samsung’s regional support guidance includes restarting as a troubleshooting step.
Clear the USB Settings cache
If the alert persists, Samsung’s guidance also suggests clearing the USB Settings cache. The menu path and labels can vary by model and software version, so use the settings search for “USB Settings” if that option is available rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same menus. Do not connect a cable while the port may still be wet.

Contact Samsung support if charging still fails
If the warning stays on or charging does not resume after drying and software troubleshooting, contact Samsung support or a service center for an assessment. Persistent trouble may indicate hardware or port damage, but the warning alone cannot identify the cause. (Samsung US troubleshooting)

Samsung UK advises rinsing the charging port with fresh water when liquid other than fresh water has entered it, then drying it thoroughly with a soft cloth. Keep that instruction limited to the port and the specific liquid-exposure situation; it is not a general instruction to rinse the entire phone. (Samsung UK moisture guidance)

Water resistance does not make wet charging safe
Samsung’s guidance is to wait until the charging port is completely dry before wired charging. A water-resistance rating, where a model has one, does not make charging a wet port safe or guarantee that a phone will survive every liquid, exposure, or condition. The right diagnosis depends on the model and what happened; the moisture icon by itself is not enough to identify damage.
