If your Samsung Galaxy Tab won’t charge or is charging slowly, start by checking the wall outlet, cable, and adapter. Then inspect the charging port, let an overheated or damp tablet recover, and check charging settings. A charging problem does not automatically mean the battery has failed; Samsung lists several possible causes, including accessories, the port, temperature, moisture, and battery-protection settings.
1. Check the outlet, cable, and connection
Plug the charger into a working wall outlet, then disconnect and reconnect the cable at both the tablet and adapter. Make sure the connectors fit firmly. Look for visible damage to the cable, adapter, or connector. A loose connection or damaged accessory can interrupt charging or slow it down.

If the Tab is connected to a computer or another standard USB device, try a compatible wall adapter instead. Samsung notes that fast charging may not work from a PC or standard USB connection. See Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance.
2. Try a charger and cable compatible with your exact Tab
Test with a known-good charger and cable compatible with your specific Galaxy Tab model. If the tablet charges normally with that set, the original charger or cable may be the cause. Charging standards and supported speeds differ across models, so a higher-wattage charger is not guaranteed to make an unsupported Tab charge faster.

Samsung’s general fast-charging guidance gives examples of accessory classes: a 15W USB-A adapter with a suitable USB-A to micro-USB or USB-C cable; a 25W USB-C adapter for Super Fast Charging, with a 5A USB-C cable recommended for maximum results; and a 45W or 60W adapter with a 5A USB-C cable for Super Fast Charging 2.0. These are general examples, not specifications for every Galaxy Tab. Check your model’s supported charging standard before replacing an accessory. When comparing replacement accessories, check model compatibility, the Tab’s supported wired charging standard and maximum input, connector type, any required cable rating, and whether the adapter-and-cable combination supports the charging mode you want.
3. Inspect the charging port safely
- Turn off the tablet.
- Use a flashlight to look inside the port for dust, lint, or visible damage.
- If you can see loose debris, remove it carefully without using metal objects or liquids.
- If the connector looks bent, corroded, or loose—or the problem continues—stop probing the port and arrange service.

4. Let a hot or damp tablet recover
If the Tab is hot
Unplug it and let it cool before trying again. Samsung Support explains: “If the device temperature becomes too high, charging may stop temporarily or charging speed may decrease.”

If you see a moisture warning
Do not connect the charger while the port is wet. Samsung says: “If moisture is detected in the charging port, charging may stop to help protect the device from damage.” Gently shake the device, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it in a well-ventilated area with cool air. Wait until the port is completely dry before reconnecting power. See Samsung’s guidance for charging and moisture issues.
5. Check fast charging and battery protection
On supported models, open Settings > Battery > Charging settings and check whether Fast charging is enabled. The menu names and available options can vary by Tab model and software version. Fast charging requires support from the tablet as well as compatible accessories.
Also check Battery protection. Depending on the selected setting, the tablet may limit its maximum charge or stop charging early. A charge limit can be intentional battery protection rather than a fault. Samsung’s charging guidance covers these settings at Samsung Support.

6. If the tablet appears completely dead
Connect it to a known-good Samsung travel charger and a working outlet, then leave it charging for at least one hour. Samsung’s US instructions say a completely depleted device may take up to 10 minutes to show a charging indicator; that is a procedural observation, not a guarantee that every device will respond within that time. 7. Run a charging check and decide when to seek service
If available on your device, use Samsung Members to check cable charging: open the app, select Support, start diagnostics, and choose Cable charging. The app’s screens and diagnostic availability may vary.
Contact Samsung Support or arrange a service-center inspection if the Tab still will not charge with known-good, compatible accessories, or if charging time or battery use has significantly deteriorated. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance is at Samsung Support.
Can you charge a Galaxy Tab wirelessly?
No. Samsung’s US support page says Galaxy Tab devices are not compatible with wireless charging, so a wireless charging pad is not a workaround. See Samsung’s wireless-charging compatibility guidance.
