First check the correct address and network on a blockchain explorer, then verify the transfer and troubleshoot the wallet or marketplace display. An explorer can show on-chain ownership and transfer status; wallet and marketplace apps can have separate connection, indexing, metadata, or compatibility problems. MetaMask’s NFT guidance and OpenSea’s troubleshooting page explain these distinctions.
1. Check the address and network on a blockchain explorer
Make sure the wallet account selected in your app is the address that was supposed to receive the NFT. Then confirm the NFT’s network: an asset on one blockchain will not necessarily appear when you are viewing another network.

Search the receiving address on an explorer for that network and inspect its NFT transfers or ownership records. MetaMask recommends checking the account address or NFT contract and reviewing transactions to confirm the transfer reached the account. If the expected transfer is absent from the relevant records, contact the sender to verify the destination address and whether the transfer was completed. If the NFT was sent recently, look up the transaction hash on the network’s explorer. Check whether the transaction is pending, failed, or complete, and confirm that it is the transfer you expect. OpenSea notes that network congestion can delay transactions, but there is no universal wait time that applies to every chain or transaction. OpenSea: Why can’t I see my NFTs in my profile?.

3. If the explorer shows ownership, troubleshoot the wallet display
When the explorer indicates that the NFT is associated with your address but your wallet does not show it, the issue may be display or compatibility rather than ownership. Wallets differ in their NFT discovery and display features, so use the help instructions for the wallet and network you actually use.
MetaMask: check detection or import a supported NFT
MetaMask users can check the app’s NFT display or autodetection settings. If autodetection has not found the asset, MetaMask documents manual import using the NFT’s network, contract address, and token ID. Its guidance covers ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs, but display can still depend on available third-party data. Allow for indexing or metadata issues
A wallet or portfolio service may not have indexed an NFT yet. It may also lack access to the metadata needed to show the NFT’s image or other content. MetaMask Portfolio identifies indexing and metadata access as factors in what appears in its interface. In that situation, an on-chain ownership record can exist even if an app’s listing or media is delayed or incomplete. MetaMask Portfolio: Why is my NFT not showing in MetaMask Portfolio?.

Wallet support is not universal. For example, Coinbase Wallet’s help page says certain OpenSea lazy-minted ERC-1155 NFTs and some off-chain NFTs are not supported. That is a product-specific limitation, not a rule about every NFT or every wallet. Coinbase Wallet: What types of NFTs are supported?.

4. Check the marketplace profile and Hidden items
If the NFT is missing from a marketplace profile, confirm that the marketplace is connected to the correct wallet or profile. Then check its Hidden area; an item that is hidden from the main profile view may still be associated with your address.
A marketplace can also delist an item from its service without removing it from the blockchain. OpenSea states that a delisted item can still exist on-chain even though it is no longer visible there. 5. Treat unsolicited NFTs as a safety risk
Some blockchains allow tokens to be sent to a wallet without the recipient buying or accepting them. OpenSea warns that unsolicited NFTs can be used to lure people to malicious links. Do not follow links or visit sites advertised by an unexpected NFT; use the wallet or marketplace’s official support pages if you need help assessing it. OpenSea: What is a hidden NFT?.
6. What to give wallet support
If the explorer confirms ownership but the wallet still does not display the asset, contact that wallet’s official help channel. Include the network, receiving address, transaction hash (if there was a recent transfer), contract address, and token ID. Do not share your recovery phrase or private keys; troubleshooting a display problem should not require them.
