Stop using the camera and contact Canon service promptly. Canon’s EOS M50 Mark II manual says to contact a Canon Service Center immediately if that model gets wet and to wipe visible droplets with a clean, dry cloth. Those specific instructions are documented for the Mark II, so consult the original EOS M50 manual or Canon before following model-specific steps such as removing the battery, lens, or memory card.
What to do right away
- Stop using the camera. Do not power it on to test it or connect it to a charger.
- Contact Canon service promptly. Canon’s Mark II handling precautions say, “If the camera gets wet, contact a Canon Service Center immediately.” The cited page is for the EOS M50 Mark II, not the original M50. Canon EOS M50 Mark II Handling Precautions
- Blot visible exterior droplets only. Canon’s Mark II manual says to wipe water droplets with a “dry and clean cloth.” This is surface care, not a way to dry internal components.
- Ask Canon what to do next for your exact model. The original EOS M50 support listing identifies its User Manual, file version 1.0, last updated February 7, 2018, but the wet-camera instructions are not available in the cited listing. Canon EOS M50 support
Is the Canon EOS M50 waterproof?
Do not treat the EOS M50 as waterproof or safe to use underwater. Canon explicitly says the EOS M50 Mark II is not waterproof and cannot be used underwater. That statement is from the Mark II manual; the cited original-M50 support listing does not expose the corresponding handling text. Either way, do not assume the camera is protected from rain or liquid exposure.

What not to do
- Do not turn it on, charge it, or keep shooting to see whether it works.
- Do not use a hair dryer or other heat source, open the camera, or rely on rice or silica gel as a repair. The cited Canon guidance does not validate these as ways to prevent or reverse internal water damage.
- Do not detach the lens, battery, or card automatically based on condensation advice. Check the original M50 manual or follow Canon service guidance for liquid exposure.
Water exposure and condensation are different
Canon’s EOS M50 Mark II manual has a separate procedure for condensation: do not use the camera; remove the lens, card, and battery; then wait for the condensation to evaporate before using it. This applies to condensation in the Mark II manual, not necessarily liquid exposure, and is not verified here as the original M50’s procedure.
