A download alone does not prove your device is infected. If you ran or installed the file, stop entering passwords or other sensitive information on that device, disconnect it from the internet if you suspect infection, then scan it and secure accounts from a separate, trusted device.
First, work out what happened to the file

| You opened, ran, or installed it—or the device is behaving strangely | Treat the device as potentially compromised. Stop using it for logins or sensitive activity, disconnect it from Wi-Fi or Ethernet if you suspect infection, and scan it with legitimate security software. |
These are general malware-response steps, not a procedure validated for any particular game leak. A suspicious filename or a download by itself cannot establish whether malware is present.

If you only downloaded the file
Do not launch it to see what it does. Use the security software already installed to scan the file or the folder where it was saved. If the software flags it, follow its quarantine or removal instructions. Don’t disable protections or create an antivirus exclusion just to run the game; exclusions can leave files or folders out of antivirus scanning. Microsoft’s guidance for unwanted software points to scanning, including an offline scan if the problem persists: Protect your PC from unwanted software.
If you ran or installed it
- Stop sensitive activity on that device. Don’t sign in to email, gaming, banking, or other important accounts, and don’t enter payment details or other sensitive information there.
- Disconnect it if you suspect infection. Turn off Wi-Fi or unplug Ethernet. This limits the device’s network access while you address the issue.
- Update legitimate security software and scan. On Windows, Microsoft recommends updating security intelligence and running a full scan. If unwanted software persists, an offline scan is another available step: Microsoft’s scan guidance.
- Get trusted help if the problem continues. If the threat cannot be removed or the device keeps acting abnormally, contact the device manufacturer or a technical support provider you already know and trust.
A clean scan is useful, but it does not prove that every possible compromise is absent. The cited guidance does not guarantee detection for a specific fake game leak.

Protect accounts from a clean device
Use a separate device you believe is safe to change passwords and turn on two-factor authentication. Prioritize accounts whose credentials you entered on the affected device—especially your email and gaming accounts—then address financial and other important accounts. Review sign-in activity for anything unfamiliar and use the service’s official recovery process if you find unauthorized activity. The FTC recommends changing passwords and enabling two-factor authentication after suspected malware: Malware: How To Protect Against, Detect, and Remove It.
Avoid fake cleanup offers
- Get security software from its maker’s official website or the Microsoft Store, not from the suspicious download page or an unfamiliar link.
- Do not call a phone number displayed in an unexpected warning or install a cleanup tool it recommends.
- Use a support provider you already know and trust. The FTC advises seeking trusted technical help when needed: FTC malware guidance.
Microsoft warns that third-party downloads can be modified to include unwanted software or other threats and recommends official sources: How malware can infect your PC. Microsoft also describes tech-support scams that use deceptive warnings and prompts: Tech Support Scams.
