How do I repay my borrow position?
Repay GHO through the borrow position in Aave’s interface, or through the protocol where you know how to interact with its contracts. Repayment can be partial or full. Aave’s GHO documentation says GHO repayment works like repayment of other assets: the Pool contract must be authorized to spend the GHO, either with an approval transaction or a signed permit used with repayWithPermit.

- Open the Aave market and wallet containing your position, then view the GHO borrow balance.
- Check the current amount due. It includes accrued interest, so the amount may be higher than the GHO originally borrowed. Aave’s FAQ explains that repayment uses the same asset borrowed and accounts for accrued interest.
- Choose a partial or full repayment amount. Make sure the wallet has enough GHO for the amount you enter and enough of the network’s native token to pay transaction fees.
- If prompted, approve GHO spending by the Pool contract. The approval is a separate transaction; alternatively, a supported interface and wallet may offer signed-permit repayment.
- Submit the repayment and wait for confirmation. Recheck the borrow balance and health factor after the transaction is confirmed.
If the transaction fails, do not assume the debt changed. Check the wallet’s transaction status and Aave position again before submitting another transaction.
Why can’t I withdraw?
There are two separate constraints to check: whether removing collateral would make the position unsafe, and whether the reserve has enough unborrowed liquidity to fulfill the withdrawal. Aave’s withdrawal guidance notes that collateral backing an active borrow may not be withdrawable if doing so would make the position unsafe. It also explains that withdrawals depend on available liquidity in the asset pool.

Outstanding debt and health factor
Look at the health factor shown for the position before attempting a withdrawal. Aave’s liquidation guide states that a health factor below 1 indicates liquidation risk. Repaying some debt or supplying more collateral can improve it. If collateral is locked behind a borrow, reduce the debt or add collateral before trying to withdraw; repaying the full debt releases collateral for withdrawal, subject to pool liquidity.
Pool liquidity
A healthy position does not guarantee that any amount can be withdrawn immediately. The pool can only return the amount of an asset that is available and not currently borrowed. Check the reserve’s available liquidity and try a smaller withdrawal if appropriate. Do not confuse a liquidity limit with a health-factor restriction: they are different reasons a withdrawal may fail.

How do I repay if I don’t have GHO in my wallet?
Aave’s FAQ describes a repay-with-collateral feature that can use aTokens, flashloans, and DEX integrations to repay debt without first holding the borrowed token in the wallet. Treat it as an interface-dependent option, not a route available for every market, collateral type, or position. Check whether the feature is offered for your specific position and review the assets and transaction details before signing. If it is not available, you will need to obtain GHO through a route you trust or add collateral and repay by another supported method.

- The token and amount you are trying to repay or withdraw.
- Your wallet’s GHO balance and the displayed accrued debt.
- The current health factor and the reserve’s available liquidity.
- The exact wallet or Aave interface error, and whether the transaction was rejected, pending, or reverted.
Use Aave’s official help pages to compare the error with the relevant repayment, withdrawal, or liquidation constraint. If you still need protocol-specific help, Aave’s FAQ points users to its official Discord; it does not guarantee a response or resolution. Never share your seed phrase or private key with someone offering support.
