If someone is harassing you on a dating app, get to safety first if there is an immediate physical threat. Otherwise, save relevant information if you can do so safely, report the behavior in the app, and block or unmatch to stop further contact. You do not have to confront the person, and reporting does not guarantee that the app will remove their account.
If you may be in immediate danger, get help first
An in-app report is not an emergency response. If you face an immediate physical threat, move to a safer place if possible and contact local emergency authorities. Tinder Help gives the same direction: “If you or someone else is in immediate physical danger, please contact your local authorities right away.”

Save useful details if it is safe to do so
Before a profile, chat, or match becomes inaccessible, keep information that may help you make a report. Do not continue a conversation, delay blocking, or put yourself at risk just to collect evidence.

- Note the person’s profile name and identifying details, such as age, bio, photos, or known contact information.
- Save relevant messages and screenshots, along with dates or other context that helps explain what happened.
- Write a short, factual account of the behavior and whether contact also occurred elsewhere.
Tinder recommends providing identifying profile details and says screenshots are best for reports by email. Bumble asks users reporting someone after an unmatch to include screenshots if available.
Report the behavior through the app
Choose the report reason that most accurately describes what happened, then add concise context. Report what the person did rather than guessing at their motives. Tinder Safety Center says, “Do report harassment on and off the app.” Tinder also says non-consensual sexually explicit content can be reported even if the conversation moved off the app; off-app contact does not automatically make an in-app report invalid.

Tinder
- To report a profile in Discovery, open the profile, tap the three dots, and choose Report.
- To report a match, open the chat, tap the three dots, and choose Report.
- Give the reason and relevant details. Tinder’s guidance says a report may include the person’s exact name, age, bio, photos, and known location, phone number, or email. Screenshots are recommended, especially for email reports.
Tinder says reports are confidential. It may send a generic notice that a report led to account review, but it does not disclose reporter or report details except in rare cases required by law. If the labels have changed, use Tinder’s current reporting instructions.

- Open the person’s profile and scroll to the bottom.
- Choose Report or Block and Report, then follow the prompts.

Can you report someone after you unmatched?
Often, yes, but the route depends on the app and whether you can still access the profile or chat. Bumble says that if you have unmatched and no longer have access, you can contact support with the person’s name, the reason for the report, and screenshots if available. Its safety-features guidance also describes support for reporting after an unmatch.
If Tinder’s profile or chat is no longer available, use its Help Center reporting guidance for the available reporting route. Include details you still have; do not assume you must re-match or resume contact to report.

Block or unmatch to limit further contact
Reporting, blocking, and unmatching serve different purposes. Reporting alerts the platform to behavior; blocking or unmatching limits contact or removes the connection. One action does not necessarily perform the others, so check the app’s prompts and use the controls you need. If the person has also contacted you through other channels, you can block them there too. Tinder specifically recommends unmatching and blocking elsewhere when dealing with non-consensual explicit content.

After a Tinder report, Tinder says the account will no longer appear in your match list or while you swipe. A Trust & Safety team member reviews the report and determines next steps under its Community Guidelines; Tinder may not be able to share details because of privacy guidelines. Consider support beyond the app
If you want help beyond platform moderation, choose support that fits what happened and where you are. Tinder’s help guidance lists RAINN for sexual-violence resources, ThroughLine and BEAM for finding local mental-health or crisis support, and The Trevor Project for LGBTQIA+ assistance. The appropriate service depends on your location and circumstances; these options are not a complete directory.
For an in-person threat or other urgent danger, contact local emergency authorities rather than waiting for an app to review a report. You are not responsible for someone else’s harassment because you shared information, moved a conversation off-app, or unmatched.
