If it is numbered hardware, IKEA’s US self-service spare-parts route may help; for an unnumbered or larger component, ask IKEA directly. A private second-hand purchase is not the same as buying an item through IKEA’s As-Is department, so do not assume the As-Is policy guarantees a replacement.
1. Make sure the part is actually missing
Some IKEA products come in multiple packages, and small pieces can be caught in packaging or hidden inside a panel or box. Check all packages and packaging before requesting anything. Then compare what you have with the assembly instructions, including the parts list and the steps where the component is used. IKEA’s US missing-parts guidance and UK guidance both recommend checking the packages and instructions.

2. Identify the item and the part
If the paper guide is gone, look up the product on IKEA’s website. IKEA US says assembly instructions are available from the product page under Product details; the US customer-service FAQ addresses missing or damaged parts. IKEA’s UK and Germany help pages also direct customers to product pages and assembly documents.

Record the product name or model, the instruction step, and the missing part’s name. If the guide assigns the part a number, write that down too. A clear photo of the item and the relevant instruction page can help when you contact customer support or visit a store.

3. Try IKEA first for numbered hardware
In the US, IKEA says some numbered hardware can be requested through its self-service spare-parts route. Its older-item guidance specifies hardware with a six-digit number and says it can be ordered free of charge. Check the local service for your country: IKEA Germany describes six- or eight-digit codes, and the UK guidance also describes six- or eight-digit codes. Those country-specific details do not establish the procedure or delivery terms for another market. Spare-part availability is not guaranteed by the cited guidance.
If the part has no number or is a larger component, IKEA’s US guidance recommends store assistance. Bring the assembly document and any receipt or order confirmation you have; if you cannot visit, contact customer support. IKEA notes that it may not be able to guarantee a resolution when proof of purchase is unavailable or the customer is outside its 365-day return policy. Because a private second-hand sale may not come with the original buyer’s proof, explain honestly where and when you acquired the item and ask whether the specific part can be supplied. 4. Understand the As-Is policy—and its limits
IKEA’s US As-Is guidance applies to goods sold through IKEA’s As-Is department, not automatically to furniture bought from a private seller. For an As-Is purchase, IKEA says missing hardware such as screws or drawer slides may be ordered free of charge, subject to availability. Missing larger parts, such as a door or top, may be supplied at the store’s discretion and may incur a fee; As-Is sales are final. These terms are set out in IKEA’s US As-Is FAQ and US hardware-parts guidance. If you bought the item from an individual or marketplace seller, ask that seller about the missing part as well; the IKEA As-Is terms do not establish what the private seller must do.
