Do not try to extinguish an actively burning lithium-ion battery. Get away, warn anyone nearby, and call 911. Avoid the smoke and wait for trained responders at a safe distance. A battery that appears to be out can reignite.
What to do right now
- Move away and evacuate. Leave the area and help others get clear if you can do so without approaching the battery or smoke.
- Call 911. Tell the dispatcher that a lithium-ion battery is smoking or burning, and describe its location and type if known.
- Stay clear of smoke. Do not handle, move, or inspect the battery. Wait for responders and follow their directions.
The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) gives this battery-specific public guidance: do not try to put out the fire; evacuate and call 911. USFA lithium-ion battery safety guidance.

What if the battery is hot or damaged but not burning?
Stop using a battery that is damaged, unusually hot, bulging, leaking, popping or hissing, or visibly venting gas. Do not treat it as safe to handle just because there are no flames. Keep away and seek professional assistance if you suspect a problem. USFA identifies these signs as possible indicators of damage or thermal runaway, an uncontrolled chain reaction of heating that can lead to fire or explosion. USFA on battery risks and response strategies and USFA community safety guidance.

A lithium-ion battery incident can release flammable gases, eject hot cells, and cause secondary ignitions. Smoke and heat create immediate hazards, and the battery may reignite after the visible fire appears to have stopped. These risks make a do-it-yourself suppression attempt unsafe for the public.
#1 Best Overall
- Risk reduction: Fireproof doesn't mean it can be endlessly exposed to fire and resist spontaneous battery combustion, we designed this product originally to reduce the risk of fire and stop the spread of fire, it is recommended that our products are stored in an open area with no flammable materials around to ensure maximum safety.
- Fire prevention: Coated special fabric | For covering or wrapping batteries or battery-powered devices | Retains heat, flames and smoke | Caution in case of fire - gases are toxic.
- Protection: The fireproof cover delays the spread of heat and fire in the event of a fire | It immediately reduces smoke development | Battery fires are limited and conventional fires are smothered by oxygen deprivation.
- Compact and light: The fireproof blanket is easy to handle and can be stored easily. This makes it ideal for use at home, in the office or when travelling to enable a quick response to potential fire hazards.
- Do you know the potential dangers of lipo batteries? Once the battery is shorted, it will instantly generate high temperature and spontaneously ignite, which brings danger to you and your family. We designed this cover to minimize that risk, even though it can't withstand the heat and flames naturally generated by batteries for long time. But it will at least give you time to react to a spontaneous battery combustion.
Do not assume a household ABC extinguisher, fire blanket, or specialty product is a proven solution for an actively burning battery. USFA’s general extinguisher advice is conditional: an extinguisher should be considered only for a small, contained fire when the user is safe from toxic smoke, has a clear escape route, and someone has called the fire department. That general checklist does not replace USFA’s battery-specific advice to leave an active battery fire to responders. USFA guidance on choosing and using fire extinguishers.
Different batteries need different responder tactics
A phone, e-bike, electric vehicle, and stationary energy-storage installation differ in size, design, battery location, and chemistry. There is no single consumer method that applies to all of them. For EV incidents, USFA says there is no universally accepted, scientifically validated method for extinguishing every type of fire; responders consult vehicle-specific emergency response guidance. Whether the battery is in a small device or a larger system, the public response to active fire is the same: get away, alert others, call 911, and let trained responders handle the incident.

If a battery overheats or burns on an aircraft
Notify a flight crew member immediately if a battery or device overheats, expands, smokes, or burns during a flight. FAA guidance says crews are trained to recognize and respond to lithium-battery fires. Do not adapt household advice into an instruction to use personal suppression equipment aboard an aircraft. - Easy to Use and Store: lightweight and foldable design allows quick deployment; Simply cover the battery or device when needed; Compact size makes this ebike battery cover convenient for daily storage or travel use
- Wide Application Scenarios: ideal for battery charging protection in garages, outdoor cycling, delivery services, and home storage; Suitable for lithium batteries of e-bikes, e-scooters, and small electric devices
What to do after the fire appears to be out
Do not approach to check whether the battery is safe. Reignition is possible after apparent extinguishment. Leave inspection, monitoring, moving, cooling, and disposal of a fire-involved battery to responders, and follow their directions. USFA describes continued post-fire assessment and monitoring as important, including during transport and placement. USFA battery-fire response strategies and USFA EV incident response guidance.
