Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First, confirm the key is actually for Steam on your Fanatical order page. If Steam says a confirmed Steam key is invalid, sign out of the Steam client, wait a few minutes, sign back into the correct account, and retry with the code’s hyphens and uppercase letters intact. If Steam says the key is already redeemed—or the invalid error continues—stop retrying and contact Fanatical support with your order details and the exact error.
Check that the key is meant for Steam
Fanatical sells keys for several platforms. In Fanatical, open Order History & Keys and check the platform icon and activation instructions for the specific product. If the order names another service, such as Epic, GOG, EA, or Rockstar, Steam will not activate that key; follow the instructions for the named platform instead. See Fanatical’s activation instructions.

If Steam says the key is invalid
- Check the code entry. Preserve the hyphens and enter uppercase letters as shown. Copy and paste the key, or use the Redeem button on the Fanatical order page, to avoid mistyping it.
- Refresh your Steam session. Sign out of the Steam client, wait at least a few minutes, then sign back into the account where you want the game and try again.
- If the error remains, open a Fanatical support ticket. Fanatical notes that Steam may initially report a key as invalid and later accept it, but a persistent error needs retailer investigation. Include your order number, the exact key you entered, the exact Steam error, and confirmation that you signed out and retried. Keep your order record and error message available. Do not send your Steam password or other account credentials. See Fanatical’s invalid-key guidance.
If Steam says the key is already redeemed
Steam defines a duplicate product code as one that has already been redeemed to a Steam account; it cannot be registered again. Re-entering the same code will not transfer the game or register it to another account. Steam directs customers who bought a key from a retailer to that retailer, and says Steam Support cannot issue a replacement CD key. For a Fanatical purchase, contact Fanatical support about a duplicate key.

Give Fanatical your order number, the game title, and the key, and report the exact message Steam displayed. Fanatical lists several possible explanations, including that the key was previously copied or redeemed, that a publisher withdrew a game or cancelled older unredeemed keys, or that its system supplied a duplicate. Those are possibilities, not a diagnosis of your order; Fanatical must investigate the specific key.

What to ask Fanatical—and what is not guaranteed
Ask support to check whether the key is faulty and what remedy is available for your order. Do not assume a replacement or refund is automatic. Fanatical’s terms say disclosed keys are generally final unless they can be verified and proved faulty. The terms describe refunds or credits as discretionary and list conditions that include the game not having been activated or downloaded, a request within 14 days of purchase, the platform not having withdrawn the product during that period, and reasonable special circumstances. They also state that UK customers may have a refund or replacement right when a game is found faulty within 30 days, and preserve statutory rights. These terms are location- and circumstance-dependent; check the current terms and applicable law where you live. Fanatical’s FAQ also says eligibility depends on whether the key was revealed and whether the purchase was more than 14 days earlier. See Fanatical’s terms and its refund FAQ.
