Don’t reply, click, scan, submit information, download anything, or invite the bot. Report the app and, if relevant, its message. Is this Discord bot spam or a scam?
An unexpected request for payment information, a link click, or a Discord login QR scan is enough reason to stop and verify independently. Don’t treat an offer or urgent-sounding request in a bot DM as trustworthy just because it appears inside Discord. What should I do first?
- Stop before taking the requested action. Don’t reply, open the link, enter information, scan a code, download a file, or add the bot to a server. Discord specifically cautions against following links or adding bots from suspicious DMs.
- Report the application. Open the bot or app’s profile, select the three-dot menu, and choose “Report App.” Choose whether the report concerns the app’s profile or its behavior, then select the closest matching policy category.
- Report the message too, if appropriate. Select or long-press the message and choose “Report Message.” If you moderate the server, Discord’s guidance also describes a “Delete Message” option that can remove the content while enabling a report.
- Choose the response based on what you exposed. Receiving a message is different from sharing payment details, entering a password, or scanning a suspicious login QR code. Use the relevant section below rather than assuming that one step addresses every risk.
Discord also describes reporting an application from User Settings → Authorized Apps. Labels and available controls can differ between desktop, web, and mobile, so the exact screen may not look identical on every device. If you do not see the same wording or menu, look for the app-reporting control in the relevant profile or Authorized Apps area rather than following directions from the suspicious message.
How do I report a bot on Discord?
Report the app from its profile
- Open the app or bot’s profile in Discord.

Report the message
To report the message itself, select it—or long-press it on a touch device—and choose “Report Message.” A message report and an app report concern different things: the first flags the content you received; the second reports the application or its behavior. In other words, if the app itself is behaving suspiciously and a particular DM contains a suspicious link or request, reporting one does not prevent you from reporting the other.

What if I already clicked the link or gave the bot information?
Respond according to what happened. Discord’s reviewed guidance identifies payment details as sensitive information that phishing may target, and it gives a specific instruction for suspicious QR-code scans. It does not provide a payment-provider dispute procedure or promise reimbursement, so contact the organization that controls the exposed payment method for instructions. Also distinguish simply receiving or opening a link from entering credentials, submitting payment information, scanning a login code, or downloading something; the response steps below are tied to the exposure that occurred.

If you gave payment information
Contact the relevant bank, card issuer, or payment service promptly, but reach it through an official app, website, or phone number you find independently—not contact information in the bot’s message. If you entered your password or suspect account access
Use Discord’s official account-security and support channels rather than a link sent by the bot. Review your account and servers you own for changes. Discord warns that someone who controls an account may change credentials, see personal information and private conversations, and alter servers, so unexpected account or server changes are a reason to treat the incident seriously. The important distinction is whether you entered Discord credentials or suspect someone accessed your account; if so, a report alone does not secure the account.
If you scanned a suspicious login QR code
Change your Discord password immediately. Discord specifically advises this after a suspicious QR scan and says the change invalidates the current account token and logs out all devices. After changing it, review your account and any servers you own for changes. Do not treat the QR code as harmless merely because you did not type a password into a web form; Discord’s guidance gives QR scans their own immediate password-change step.

Keep the response focused on what was exposed
The most useful next step depends on the information or access involved. A suspicious message that you did not act on calls for stopping and reporting; exposed payment details call for promptly contacting the payment provider; a suspicious Discord QR scan calls for an immediate password change. If more than one thing happened, take each applicable step. Use independently verified official channels for recovery, rather than links or contact details supplied by the suspicious bot.
