An ultra-thin phone is worth buying when its lighter, slimmer body matters more to you than any battery, camera or accessory trade-off. Compare thickness and weight alongside real-world endurance, camera options, durability and local availability—not as isolated headline specifications.
Start with thickness and weight—but consider how the phone feels
Published dimensions make slim phones easy to compare, but they do not tell the whole story of how one feels in your hand or pocket. Width, display size and the camera bump also affect handling: a thin chassis can still feel uneven or thicker where its cameras project.

| Phone | Published thickness | Weight | Display | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apple iPhone Air | 5.64 mm | 165 g | 6.5-inch OLED | Apple technical specifications |
| Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge | 5.8 mm | 163 g | 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 1–120 Hz | Samsung announcement, May 13, 2025 |
The measurements are close, but the phones differ in display size and shape. If possible, handle a display model before buying, paying attention to how the camera area sits in your grip and whether the width suits one-handed use.
Check battery life using comparable evidence
Battery capacity, manufacturer playback estimates and independent endurance tests measure different things. A capacity figure in mAh does not directly predict how long a phone lasts: screen settings, signal strength, apps and workload all matter.

| Figure | What it means | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| 3,900 mAh typical; 3,786 mAh rated minimum | Galaxy S25 Edge battery capacity | Samsung, May 13, 2025; Samsung says actual life varies with network, usage and other factors. |
| Up to 27 hours | iPhone Air video playback estimate | Apple’s stated estimate, not a guarantee for mixed everyday use. |
| 12 hours 2 minutes (iPhone Air); 11 hours 48 minutes (Galaxy S25 Edge) | Continuous web-surfing test | Tom’s Guide test at 150 nits. |
Apple’s video-playback estimate should not be compared directly with Tom’s Guide’s web-surfing results; the activities and methods differ. If you need a phone to last through heavy navigation, gaming, photography or a long day away from a charger, look for tests that resemble your own use and keep an external battery or charging access in mind.
Decide whether an external battery is practical
Apple lists up to 40 hours of video playback for iPhone Air with its MagSafe Battery, compared with up to 27 hours without it. In Tom’s Guide’s continuous web-surfing test at 150 nits, iPhone Air ran for 17 hours 15 minutes with the battery accessory, versus 12 hours 2 minutes without it. These are separate manufacturer and reviewer measurements. The accessory may help with endurance, but it is another item to carry and changes the phone’s slim, light setup.

Choose cameras by the photos you take, not megapixel totals
Camera versatility depends on the available lenses and how well they perform in the situations you care about. A higher megapixel number alone does not establish better image quality.
| Phone | Rear camera setup | Practical distinction | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 Edge | 200 MP wide and 12 MP ultra-wide | Includes an ultra-wide lens for broader scenes and additional macro flexibility noted in Tom’s Guide’s comparison. | Samsung specifications; Tom’s Guide comparison |
| iPhone Air | Single 48 MP rear camera system | Apple specifies 2x optical-quality zoom, but there is no separate rear ultra-wide camera. | Apple technical specifications |
Tom’s Guide’s scene-by-scene assessment did not find a universal winner. Think about whether you regularly shoot wide landscapes, group photos or close-up subjects, and whether you value having a dedicated ultra-wide lens. If you mostly take everyday photos at standard angles, a simpler camera setup may be an acceptable trade-off.

Understand what water resistance and materials do—and do not—promise
Samsung lists a titanium frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 front and IP68 resistance for Galaxy S25 Edge. Apple lists a titanium design, Ceramic Shield front and back, and IP68 resistance for iPhone Air. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise that a phone is immune to drops, impacts or every kind of water exposure.
Samsung says its IP68 resistance is based on lab testing and may diminish over time. Read each manufacturer’s stated conditions and warranty terms before relying on water resistance; a rating is not a substitute for careful handling or protection suited to your use.

Match performance and ownership details to your needs
Official specifications identify Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in Galaxy S25 Edge and A19 Pro in iPhone Air. Those chip names do not, by themselves, show how a phone behaves during sustained gaming or long video-processing sessions. Tom’s Guide reports varying benchmark and sustained-stress results, which should be treated as that publication’s tests rather than a universal measure of performance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Platform: Choose the operating system and services you want to live with; changing platforms may matter more than a small difference in thickness.
- Screen and handling: Compare display size and phone width as well as weight. A larger screen can be useful, but may be less comfortable for one-handed use.
- Charging: Galaxy S25 Edge is specified to reach about 55% wired charge in around 30 minutes with a 25 W adapter; Samsung says the adapter is sold separately. Apple specifies up to 50% charge in 30 minutes for iPhone Air with a 20 W-or-higher adapter and USB-C cable, or a 30 W-or-higher adapter paired with MagSafe Charger; those accessories are sold separately. These are manufacturer claims under their stated charging conditions.
- Storage, network and support: Check the exact regional model, storage configuration, carrier compatibility and official update or support terms before purchase. They are not settled by a global spec sheet.
Compare alternatives and verify local availability
Tom’s Guide’s February 25, 2026 comparison describes Motorola Edge 70 as another thin-phone option, discussing its 4,800 mAh battery, three 50 MP cameras, chipset, update support and regional availability. The article said it was not sold in the U.S. when written. Availability, product lineups and prices can change, so confirm current details in your country rather than assuming a model is sold or supported locally.
Before choosing, compare the phones you can actually buy at the price and storage level you want. Check the current price, carrier compatibility, official support terms and return policy with the retailer or manufacturer; no single model is the best fit for every market or workload.
Quick Recap
A quick decision checklist
- Does the thinner, lighter body make a noticeable difference to your daily carry?
- Can you live with the camera lenses and zoom options on the model you prefer?
- Do published estimates or independent battery tests support your typical day, and can you charge when needed?
- Are you comfortable carrying an external battery if you want extra endurance?
- Have you checked the exact model, price, storage, carrier compatibility and support terms available where you live?
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
