If a cordless screwdriver will not charge or start, first check the outlet, charger, cable and connections. Then confirm the charging setup and indicator behavior for the exact model, allow its specified charging time, and check that its direction or safety switch is not locking out the trigger. If those checks fail, stop and contact the manufacturer or seller rather than opening the tool or trying an unverified charger.
Check the outlet, charger and cable first
- Confirm the outlet works. Try a known-working device in the outlet, or test it as the screwdriver manufacturer instructs. If the charger lists a mains-voltage rating, make sure the supply matches it. Einhell and BLACK+DECKER manuals identify the power supply as a possible cause of charging or startup problems. - Inspect the charger and cable. Look for a frayed cord, broken connector, bent plug or other visible damage. Do not use a visibly damaged charger or handle damaged mains equipment; Xiaomi advises against using a damaged charger. Xiaomi support: Mi Cordless Screwdriver 3.6V charging.
- Use the specified charging equipment and seat it fully. Check the manual for your exact model, then connect the specified charger and cable firmly at both ends. A similar-looking plug does not establish compatibility. Xiaomi warns that an incompatible or third-party charger may not provide enough power, while Einhell directs users to its supplied charger.
- Check contact alignment if the tool uses a cradle or exposed contacts. Make sure the screwdriver sits as the manual shows and that the charging contacts meet properly. Einhell and BLACK+DECKER include contact fit among their charging checks.
Interpret the charging light using the exact model’s manual
Charging lights and battery indicators do not mean the same thing across cordless screwdrivers. For your model, check whether the manual describes a light that is on, off, blinking or changing color, and follow its instructions. Temperature limits also vary by product; use the temperature guidance in that screwdriver’s manual rather than applying another brand’s range.

Allow time to charge, then check the switch
A deeply depleted battery may need an extended time on charge. Xiaomi gives that advice for the Mi Cordless Screwdriver 3.6V, but it does not establish a universal charging duration. Follow the charge time specified for your model and avoid treating a lack of an immediate startup as proof that the battery has failed.
After charging, check the direction or safety switch before testing the trigger. On the Einhell model covered by its manual, the middle position of the direction switch blocks the on/off switch. Other designs may work differently, so consult your own manual. Make direction changes only while the tool is stopped if that is what its instructions require.

Stop if the checks do not fix it
Battery protection can shut a tool off when its battery is depleted. The Einhell manual specifically warns against repeatedly pressing the trigger after its protection circuit cuts power because doing so may damage the battery pack. Do not try to force a tool to run after a cutoff.
If the outlet, charger, cable, connections, contacts, model-specific charge period and switch position are all correct but the screwdriver still will not charge or turn on, contact the manufacturer’s service center or the seller. Xiaomi points users to official service or the seller, and Einhell directs customers to its customer service if its checks do not resolve a charging failure. Do not open a sealed tool, bypass battery protection, improvise a charger, or attempt battery repair based on instructions for another model.
