Before moving from Android to iPhone, check that your data fits, choose whether to use Apple’s setup-time Move to iOS transfer or move items manually, and confirm how your carrier will activate your number. Contacts, photos, messages, calendars and several other categories can transfer, but apps are not a complete copy of your Android phone—and music, books and PDFs require manual migration.
What to check before you start
Make sure the iPhone has enough storage
Compare the Android content you intend to move with the iPhone’s available storage. Include files and photos stored on an external Micro SD card if you plan to transfer them. Apple warns that insufficient space can leave the transfer incomplete or make the iPhone appear full; its stated recovery is to erase the iPhone and repeat the transfer after confirming that the content will fit. Apple’s Move to iOS instructions explain the transfer and recovery process.

Choose the transfer route and prepare both phones
Apple recommends connecting both phones to power and using Wi‑Fi. A direct USB-C connection can make the transfer faster, but check that a cable works with the ports on both specific phones before relying on the wired option. Apple does not provide a speed estimate.
For Move to iOS, keep the Android phone available, nearby and undisturbed until the iPhone’s progress bar finishes. Leave Move to iOS open on Android; switching apps or answering a call before completion can prevent content from transferring. Even if Android reports that the process is done, wait for the iPhone’s loading bar to complete.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Check bookmarks, apps and account access
- Chrome bookmarks: Update Chrome on Android if you want its bookmarks included in the transfer.
- Apps: Apple says some free apps may be matched for download only if they are available in both Google Play and the App Store and support the transfer feature. Expect to download eligible apps on the iPhone and sign in again where needed. Check essential apps—especially banking, authentication and subscription apps—individually; Apple’s instructions do not establish that every app, paid app, login or app-specific data will transfer.
- Accounts: Make sure you can sign in to the email, cloud-storage and other accounts you use. A transfer of account information does not replace having the credentials or completing any sign-in or security checks on the new phone.
What transfers—and what needs a separate plan
Apple lists these categories as transferable through its Android migration process: contacts; message history and SMS; camera photos and videos; photo albums; files and folders; accessibility and display settings; web bookmarks; mail accounts; WhatsApp messages and media; Voice Memos; call history; and calendars. App matching is conditional, not a promise that all Android apps or their contents will appear on the iPhone. See Apple’s current transfer list for the supported categories.
Apple’s instruction is explicit: “Music, books, and PDFs need to be moved over manually.” For other items that do not come across, Apple’s manual migration guidance covers email, contacts and calendars; photos and videos through a computer; music, books and PDFs; documents; and apps. If documents are stored in Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive, install the relevant iPhone app and sign in to access them.

Decide between Move to iOS and manual migration
| Option | When it fits | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Move to iOS | You are still setting up the iPhone and want to transfer the supported categories in one guided process. | Choose “From Android” on the iPhone’s “Transfer Your Apps & Data” screen. If setup is already complete, Apple says using the app route requires erasing the iPhone and starting setup again. |
| Manual migration | You have finished iPhone setup or prefer to move selected content without erasing the configured phone. | Some content needs its own route, such as moving photos through a computer or downloading cloud-service apps. Music, books and PDFs need manual handling. |
Apple also describes a no-app transfer during setup for supported devices running a compatible version of Android 17 or later. Android version alone does not establish eligibility; confirm support for the specific manufacturer and device in Apple’s transfer instructions.

Confirm how your phone number will be activated
Do not assume your Android SIM or eSIM will move automatically. As of Apple’s September 21, 2026 guidance, direct Android-to-iPhone eSIM transfer with iOS 26 and later is available only with some carriers and selected smartphone manufacturers. Apple lists requirements including an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later, a compatible Android phone running Android 16 or later, Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth enabled on both devices, and a participating carrier. The listed providers cover selected carriers in the United States, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Czechia, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Check Apple’s current eSIM compatibility page for your exact carrier and phone before depending on direct transfer; availability can change.

After a successful eSIM transfer, the Android SIM deactivates. If your carrier or device is not supported for direct transfer, Apple says to contact the carrier to activate the eSIM; activation may be handled by the carrier or through a QR code. Make a test call on the iPhone after activation, and keep the old phone available until your number works on the new one.

- Start iPhone setup and, at “Transfer Your Apps & Data,” select “From Android.” If you have already completed setup, choose manual migration instead unless you are prepared to erase the iPhone and start setup again.
- Open Move to iOS on Android, follow the prompts and enter the code shown on the iPhone. The iPhone creates a temporary Wi‑Fi network for the transfer.
- Keep both phones nearby and connected to power. Leave Move to iOS open on Android and do not take calls or switch apps while the transfer is in progress.
- Wait until the iPhone’s progress bar finishes before using either phone or treating the migration as complete.
If the phones cannot connect, Apple’s suggested steps include turning off Android settings that affect Wi‑Fi, forgetting known networks, restarting both devices and disabling Android cellular data before trying again. If the transfer is partial because the iPhone lacks space, Apple’s recovery path is to erase it and repeat only after verifying that the selected content fits.
