Before installing a fan-made Batman: Arkham Knight mod, check that it is intended for your game version and platform, follow that mod’s own installation instructions, and make a backup of any files it will replace. A download page or mod manager can provide useful information, but neither guarantees that a file is safe or compatible.
Check the mod page before downloading
Read the full description and installation instructions for the specific mod—not just its title or screenshots. Confirm that the author names your game and platform, and check the listed requirements, compatibility notes, permissions, and any warnings. Review pinned instructions and recent posts or bug reports for reports of launch problems or conflicts. Note when the file was last updated; an older mod is not automatically unsafe, but its compatibility may be uncertain.

- Use the author’s stated download page and avoid repackaged copies or unrelated executable files.
- Check that the archive’s contents match the files and folders described in the instructions. A ZIP’s contents and destination are not universal across mods.
- Keep the original archive and make a note of what you change so you have a practical route to undo the installation.
These checks reduce avoidable surprises; they do not certify a download as safe. WB Games says it does not examine or evaluate third-party mods and that players use them at their own risk in its EULA.

Know what the mod will change
Before copying or installing anything, identify the destination and whether existing files will be overwritten. Configuration files deserve particular attention: replacing one may remove your existing settings or input bindings. Make a copy of any file the instructions say will be replaced, and keep it somewhere outside the game folders so you can restore it.

For a concrete example—not a general Arkham Knight installation rule—the author of The Definitive Console Command Mod (version 2.0, updated April 12, 2020) instructs users to extract its ZIP and copy the included Binaries and BmGame folders to the game root. The author notes that the included BmInput.ini may overwrite the existing file and suggests copying the original elsewhere first. Use those paths only for that mod; another mod may use a different layout or destination.
Back up saves when the instructions call for it
Save backups matter especially when a mod changes gameplay state or uses console commands. The console-command mod author advises backing up save files before using mesh-swap commands, citing a small chance of save corruption if the commands are misused. That warning applies to the described commands; it does not establish the same risk for every mod.

Store a backup where the mod’s changes cannot overwrite it, and make sure you know which save files you would restore. If the instructions do not discuss saves, do not assume that every mod affects them—but consider the potential cost of losing progress before trying a mod that changes saves or game state.

Nexus Mods’ app documentation describes the app as a mod manager, not a loader/framework. The consulted sources do not establish that a particular Arkham Knight mod works with a particular manager, so check the individual mod’s instructions rather than assuming support.

Understand what platform rules do—and do not—tell you
WB Games’ EULA defines mods as user-generated content or modifications intended to customize gameplay. It says the publisher does not evaluate or endorse third-party mods or services and places their use at the player’s risk. The EULA also restricts modifying the game client except for authorized mods; check the current terms that apply to your game and jurisdiction instead of assuming every modification is permitted.
Nexus Mods’ File Submission Guidelines, last updated September 29, 2026, describe submission requirements and possible moderation. Those platform rules and review processes are not a certification that an individual file is malware-free, compatible, or otherwise safe. The guidelines also prohibit distributing console-jailbreaking instructions through the service.

Before you launch the game
- Recheck the instructions: confirm the intended platform, requirements, destination, and any special warnings.
- Inspect the archive: make sure its contents correspond to the author’s directions; do not guess where unfamiliar files belong.
- Protect originals: copy files that will be overwritten and back up saves when the mod author recommends it.
- Install by the supported route: use manual placement or a manager only if the mod’s instructions and file structure support that method.
- Keep a rollback path: retain the original archive and note the changed files so you can restore them if the game stops launching or behaves unexpectedly.
