Before you set out, confirm the restaurant’s exact location, the hours for your planned visit, and whether the service you want—such as dine-in or takeout—is available. If any important detail conflicts or looks uncertain, call using a number verified through the restaurant’s own website or another trustworthy source.
1. Confirm the restaurant and exact address
Check that the name and street address on the listing match the restaurant’s own website or location page. This matters especially for chains, similarly named businesses, and restaurants with more than one branch. Google’s business guidance says listings should accurately represent a business and use a precise address, but that guidance describes how listings should be maintained; it does not guarantee that a particular listing is current. Google’s guidelines for representing a business explain those expectations.

2. Check hours for the day you plan to go
Read the hours for the specific day and visit time, rather than relying on a general “open” label or a weekly schedule alone. Look for special hours, holiday hours, or a temporary closure notice. Google Business Profile guidance allows businesses to set special hours for particular days, so an ordinary weekly schedule may not cover an exception.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3. Verify that the service you want is operating
“Open” does not necessarily mean the restaurant is serving customers in the way you intend. Confirm whether dine-in, takeout, delivery, or drive-through service is available at your planned time. Google’s restaurant guidance treats hours as the times diners can sit down and dine; where that is not possible, it identifies takeout, drive-through, and delivery as alternatives. Check the restaurant’s own information or call if the listing does not make the service clear. Google’s business representation guidance includes these restaurant-hour conventions.

4. Compare the street address with the map pin
Open the map and check that its pin, displayed street address, and route destination all point to the same place as the restaurant’s own location information. A map is useful for this cross-check, but the pin alone is not proof that the listing is right. The U.S. Geological Survey cautions that map addresses and locations can be inaccurate. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission also recommends using an online map to check a business address and reviewing website domains carefully: ACCC guidance on checking whether a business is genuine.

If the address, hours, service availability, or map location conflicts across sources, resolve the discrepancy before driving. Prefer the phone number on the restaurant’s known official website or corroborate it with unpaid search results. The Federal Trade Commission warns that search results can include paid ads and that misleading phone numbers can appear alongside a trusted business name; it advises consumers to check unpaid results for contact details and to enter a known website address directly. This is a general contact-verification precaution, not a claim that restaurant listings are commonly fraudulent. FTC advice on online search results.

Ask a specific question that covers both the service and location: “Are you open for dine-in at [time] today, and is this the correct address?” If you want takeout or another service, name it instead of assuming the answer applies to every service.
