Before buying budget true wireless earbuds, set a spending limit, decide whether you will mainly use them for commuting, calls, exercise or general listening, then choose the two features that matter most. Compare those priorities—not just a headline battery figure or an ANC label—and check the current price, stock and return policy before ordering.
How to narrow your shortlist
- Set a spending ceiling. Compare the total price and availability where you live; prices and stock can change, so do not rely on an old review price.
- Name your main use. Commuting or working in a shared office can make active noise cancellation (ANC) important. Exercise makes fit, stability and an appropriate water-resistance rating more important. General listening may put comfort and sound tuning first. RTINGS’ budget guide organizes its recommendations around these kinds of use.
- Pick two must-haves. For example, prioritize ANC and battery life for travel, or stable fit and splash protection for workouts. Treat other features as trade-offs rather than assuming one inexpensive pair will excel at everything.
- Check the return policy, current stock and price. Fit and sound preference are personal, and review assessments are not a guarantee that a pair will suit you.
Which features deserve the closest check?
ANC: ask what kind of noise you need to reduce
ANC performance can vary by noise type. If your commute involves steady low-frequency rumble, look for a review that discusses that specific kind of sound rather than relying on the presence of an ANC feature alone. RTINGS describes the Anker Soundcore Space A40 as especially strong at noise cancellation in its budget comparisons. It describes the less expensive Soundcore P31i as less effective against low-frequency sounds. Those are RTINGS’ review findings, not a promise of the same result for every listener or environment.

Calls: do not assume ANC means good microphones
Noise cancellation for listening and microphone performance for calls are separate considerations. RTINGS flags poor microphone recording on the Space A40. In contrast, it describes the P31i as having a more natural microphone, and the CMF Buds Pro 2 as offering better microphone recording and noise handling than the Space A40 in its under-$100 work comparison. If calls are a priority, compare microphone samples or call-focused reviews rather than choosing by ANC alone.
Fit, stability and water resistance for exercise
For workouts, consider whether earbuds stay secure during movement and whether their exact protection rating suits the activity. RTINGS describes the P31i as lightweight and stable, with an IP55 rating. Its under-$50 guide describes the JLab Audio GO Air POP as having IPX4 splash resistance and a stable fit for many workouts, but no ANC.
#1 Best Overall
- JBL Deep Bass Sound: Get the most from your mixes with high-quality audio from secure, reliable earbuds with 8mm drivers featuring JBL Deep Bass Sound
- Comfortable fit: The ergonomic, stick-closed design of the JBL Vibe Beam fits so comfortably you may forget you're wearing them. The closed design excludes external sounds, enhancing the bass performance
- Up to 32 (8h + 24h) hours of battery life and speed charging: With 8 hours of battery life in the earbuds and 24 in the case, the JBL Vibe Beam provide all-day audio. When you need more power, you can speed charge an extra two hours in just 10 minutes.
- Hands-free calls with VoiceAware: When you're making hands-free stereo calls on the go, VoiceAware lets you balance how much of your own voice you hear while talking with others
- Water and dust resistant: From the beach to the bike trail, the IP54-certified earbuds and IPX2 charging case are water and dust resistant for all-day experiences
Do not treat a water-resistance rating as unrestricted waterproofing. Check the precise model rating and the manufacturer’s directions before exposing earbuds to water; the rating alone does not establish that they can be submerged or used in every wet condition.
Battery life: compare like with like
Battery figures are meaningful only when the listening conditions are comparable. ANC use, volume and other settings can affect how long earbuds run, so check the stated conditions and treat a review figure as a model-specific report, not a guaranteed result. RTINGS reports eight hours for the Space A40 with ANC enabled, 7.3 hours for the P31i, and 6.8 hours for the CMF Buds Pro 2 in its under-$100 work comparison. The figures come from RTINGS’ 2026 model comparisons; they are not a promise of identical real-world endurance.

- Personalized Listening Experience: Use the soundcore app to customize the controls and choose from 22 EQ presets. With "Find My Earbuds", a lost earbud can emit noise to help you locate it.
- Long Playtime, Fast Charging: Get 10 hours of battery life on a single charge with a case that extends it to 30 hours. If P20i true wireless earbuds are low on power, a quick 10-minute charge will give you 2 hours of playtime.
- Portable On-the-Go Design: soundcore P20i true wireless earbuds and the charging case are compact and lightweight with a lanyard attached. It's small enough to slip in your pocket, or clip on your bag or keys–so you never worry about space.
- AI-Enhanced Clear Calls: 2 built-in mics and an AI algorithm work together to pick up your voice so that you never have to shout over the phone.
Sound tuning and app controls
Default sound is a matter of preference. RTINGS reports that the Space A40 and P31i offer app-based graphic equalizers (EQ) and presets, while their default tunings differ. EQ can help you adjust the sound, but it does not guarantee that a model will satisfy every preference. Codec support is also not, by itself, proof that you will hear an improvement.

Match the trade-off to your use
- For a noisy commute: consider the Space A40 if stronger ANC is your priority, but weigh its microphone drawback if you also take calls.
- For calls and a lower-cost alternative: consider whether the P31i’s microphone and fit advantages suit you better; its ANC is weaker against low-frequency noise.
- For work calls: the CMF Buds Pro 2 is an example of a call-focused trade-off in RTINGS’ comparison, with better microphone findings than the Space A40 but less effective ANC and a shorter reported battery figure.
- For workouts: fit and the exact protection rating may matter more than ANC. The GO Air POP illustrates a workout-oriented option in RTINGS’ guide, but it does not have ANC.
