Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBefore buying a Nintendo console or game as a gift, confirm which system the recipient owns or will receive, whether the title works with that system, and whether the gift format suits them. Nintendo eShop does not let you send a game as a gift; a prepaid eShop Card or an eligible retailer download code are alternatives.
Start with the recipient’s console
Ask whether they have a Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite or Nintendo Switch 2—or whether your gift will be their first console. The model matters: Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, but Nintendo warns that some titles may not be supported or fully compatible. Check Nintendo’s current compatibility information for the exact game before buying, particularly if the recipient already owns a library or relies on specific accessories.

Nintendo also explains whether Switch games can be played on Switch 2. Compatibility can have title-specific conditions, and hardware changes mean you should not assume an older accessory will work with Switch 2 controllers. Check the relevant guidance for both the game and any accessory you plan to include.
If the recipient has a Switch Lite
Switch Lite is designed for handheld play. For a game gift, confirm that the title supports handheld mode; Nintendo’s digital-shopping guide for parents identifies handheld support as the key check for Lite. This is especially important if you do not know whether the recipient has separate controllers or plans to play on a TV.

Pick a gift format that can actually be given
Nintendo’s answer to “Can I Send a Gift Through Nintendo eShop?” is no: “It is not possible to send a gift in the Nintendo eShop (on-device or off-device).” Nintendo suggests a prepaid Nintendo eShop Card or a download code for a select game bought from an authorized retailer. See Nintendo’s eShop gifting guidance.
- Specific physical game: A packaged game can be presented as a wrapped gift. Confirm the platform and compatibility before purchase.
- Specific digital game: Look for a download code from an authorized retailer, if that game and code are available in your market. Check regional redemption terms before buying.
- Flexible balance: An eShop Card lets the recipient choose a digital purchase. Confirm that the card’s region matches the recipient’s account and that local terms suit them.
Availability varies by title and market; the cited Nintendo guidance does not establish that every game is sold in every format or region.

Keep Nintendo Account ownership in mind
A digital purchase is tied to the Nintendo Account used to buy it, so buying a game on your own account should not be treated as a transferable present for someone else. Nintendo’s digital-purchase guidance also explains virtual game cards and the account and console conditions for loading them across systems. If you want the recipient to own the purchase on their account, choose a format intended for them—such as an eligible retailer code or prepaid balance—rather than assuming you can transfer your own purchase.

For a child, consider ratings and communication settings
Check the age rating used in the recipient’s region and consider the game’s content and online features, not just its age label. Nintendo’s parental-controls overview describes restrictions for software by rating and for communication features. The smart-device app also provides play-time limits and activity review; Nintendo Account settings can restrict eShop purchases.

For Switch 2, GameChat is managed through the parental-controls app. Users under 16 and supervised users need the app-linked controls to use GameChat. These tools help caregivers configure a console, but they do not determine whether a particular game is right for a child.

A console is a bigger commitment than a game, so check whether the recipient values handheld play, TV play or both, and whether they already own games and accessories. Switch 2 has hardware and accessory differences from earlier Switch systems; consult Nintendo’s compatibility guidance before assuming existing gear will carry over.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
If you are choosing between a console and a game, or between several games, use these questions to narrow it down:
- Which exact console model do they own or expect to receive?
- Does the game support that system and, for Switch Lite, handheld mode?
- Does its genre or subject match the recipient’s known interests?
- Are its age rating, online play and communication features suitable for the family?
- Would they prefer a physical game, a code tied to the intended recipient’s account, or flexible prepaid balance?
A known favorite and confirmed system make a specific game a sensible choice. If you are unsure about their taste, account setup or game library, a region-appropriate eShop Card leaves the choice to them. If buying the hardware, establish whether they need handheld or TV play and what they already own before deciding.
