Then compare the final price and seller’s return terms. Digital purchases are generally final, and a low-priced code or voucher is no bargain if it cannot be redeemed on your account.
Start by confirming exactly what the listing includes
Match the product title and platform to your Nintendo Switch system, then check the edition and included content. A discount may apply to a particular edition or format rather than the version you intended to buy. Do not rely on a game’s name alone: read the listing details to verify what you will receive.

Nintendo’s purchase guidance describes available purchase options by title and format, but the contents of any specific retailer listing depend on that listing. Check the seller’s item description and, where available, the packaging or edition details before checkout. If the listing does not clearly identify the edition or included content, do not assume it matches another version of the game.
Decide whether physical or digital is the better fit
A physical game card and a digital purchase have different practical checks. Compare like with like: the same game, edition, and relevant content. Then compare the final checkout price and the seller’s return terms. For a digital purchase, also confirm your Nintendo Account’s country, eShop access, available console memory, and acceptance of Nintendo’s sale terms.
#1 Best Overall
- Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures
- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs
- Play on the go in handheld or tabletop modes
- Includes Super Mario Mash-Up, Natural Texture Pack, Biome Settlers Skin Pack, Battle & Beasts Skin Pack, Campfire Tales Skin Pack; Compatible with Nintendo Switch only
- Physical card: Verify the edition and, if it is imported, the region. Consider Nintendo’s qualification that overseas software may not receive full service and support with consoles from other regions.
- Digital purchase: Confirm that the account and any code are for the correct eShop region, and that the console can download and store the game. Nintendo says digital sales are final, subject to its stated preorder cancellation exception.
A lower sticker price does not establish a better deal if the listings differ in edition, region, or included content. Compare the same product and account for any return restrictions before deciding.
For an imported physical game card, check region and support
Nintendo says Switch game cards are not region-locked, except for consoles and game cards distributed in the Chinese region. That does not mean every imported card will provide the same experience or support. Nintendo says it has not tested all overseas software with consoles from all regions and does not guarantee full service and support; it recommends software made for the console’s region.

- Challenge others anytime, anywhere, whether you're on the couch or on the go
- Play any way you want—locally, online, in TV mode, Tabletop mode, Handheld mode, or even with GameCube Controllers
- Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
- Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer
Before purchasing an imported copy, check the package or the game’s Software Information > Support Information for its supported region. Nintendo also says Chinese-region consoles and games are not compatible with those distributed in the Americas. If the listing does not make the region clear, ask the seller or choose a listing that does.

For a digital game, verify the account region and download requirements
Your Nintendo eShop country follows the country setting on your Nintendo Account. A code or card intended for another region may not work, even if the game title is the one you want. Confirm the account country before buying, and make sure the offer is valid for that eShop region.

- Explore courses at your own pace and wander the world to discover fun surprises in Free Roam
A digital purchase requires a Nintendo Account and eShop access. Automatic downloading also requires the Switch to be connected to the internet and to have enough available memory. Check storage before purchase if you expect the game to download immediately; otherwise, the purchase may not be ready to play when you want it.
Nintendo describes digital sales as final. Its stated exception is for eligible preorders: they can be canceled before payment is processed and the game is pre-loaded, which Nintendo says can be up to seven days before the release date. Since terms may vary by country, check Nintendo’s current terms for your region before completing a purchase.

Check eShop cards, download codes, and DLC separately
Do not treat a game code, eShop card, and downloadable content as interchangeable. Each has a region condition to check:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- eShop cards: They are region-specific. Nintendo says it cannot replace, exchange, or refund a card bought for another region.
- Download codes: The code must match the region of the eShop where you intend to redeem it.
- DLC: It works only with software from the same region. Check the game’s region as well as the code’s region before purchasing add-on content.
These checks matter even when the base game itself appears compatible. A physical card that plays on a console does not, by itself, prove that a separately purchased code, eShop card, or DLC will work with the account or software.
Do not count an old Game Voucher as a new discount
Nintendo says new Game Vouchers can no longer be purchased. If you already own one, redemption requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and is limited to eligible titles and the region where the voucher was purchased. An unused voucher expires 365 days after its purchase date.
Before treating an existing voucher as savings, confirm that the game appears on the current eligibility list for your country, that the voucher’s region matches, and that it has not expired. A voucher is not a general-purpose discount for any Switch game.
Quick Recap
Use this checkout checklist
- Match the product: Confirm the exact game, platform, edition, format, and included content.
- Check region: For an imported physical card, inspect its supported region and consider Nintendo’s service-and-support caveat. For digital purchases and codes, verify the Nintendo Account and eShop region.
- Check add-ons: Make sure DLC matches the region of the software, and that any download code or eShop card matches the eShop region.
- Confirm readiness: For a digital purchase, make sure you have a Nintendo Account, eShop access, an internet connection for automatic download, and enough available memory.
- Read the terms: Compare the final checkout price and seller’s return terms. For digital purchases, account for Nintendo’s final-sale rule and its limited preorder cancellation exception.
- Validate any voucher: Check current title eligibility, purchase region, paid membership requirement, and expiry date before counting it toward the deal.
