That menu breadth is the clearest reason to consider it; the key trade-off is that an automatic milk system still needs cleaning after every use. Philips lists several 5500 variants, so specifications below apply to EP5547/90 unless noted.
What drinks can the Philips 5500 make?
Philips lists 20 programmed drinks for the EP5547/90, spanning espresso and coffee drinks as well as iced options. That is the manufacturer’s menu count, not an independent assessment of drink quality. The machine is designed to prepare drinks from fresh beans automatically, with milk drinks handled through its LatteGo system.

If you want a machine that offers a range of one-touch choices rather than a simpler coffee-only setup, the menu is a practical advantage. The product information does not establish how the drinks compare in taste with other machines.

LatteGo is Philips’s two-part, tube-free milk system. Philips promotes cleaning it “in under 10 secs,” but that wording should not be read as maintenance-free: its care guidance says to rinse the two parts under tap water or put them in a dishwasher after each use. Milk residue still needs attention as part of regular ownership.
