StudyBuddy AI is an open-source study assistant that its creator, Papa Moussa Sanogo, says turns lecture notes into summaries, quizzes, flashcards, and study plans. The project is described as using Python, Streamlit, Ollama, Llama 3, and SQLite, with Ollama running the model locally. That is the creator’s account of the design, not an independent audit of the software or its privacy practices.
What StudyBuddy AI is intended to do
Sanogo describes StudyBuddy AI as a tool for students who want to spend less time turning class notes into revision materials. In his project article, he frames the problem as exam preparation taking longer than studying itself, and says students can spend hours making summaries, flashcards, and quizzes from lecture notes. Those statements explain the project’s motivation; they are not survey results or measured findings about students generally.

The intended workflow is straightforward: provide lecture notes, then use generated materials to review them. The article presents these capabilities as features:
- Summarizing lecture notes
- Generating quizzes
- Creating flashcards
- Producing personalized study plans
- Offering a student-focused interface
Sanogo also quotes an unnamed classmate saying, “I wish I had this before my last exam.” It is anecdotal feedback, not a named expert endorsement or evidence of learning outcomes.

What “local processing” does—and does not—establish
Sanogo says StudyBuddy AI uses Ollama to run models locally and presents that approach as supporting privacy. Local model execution can mean that model inference happens on the user’s own machine, but it does not by itself establish how every part of an application handles data.
The project article does not report an inspection of network traffic, storage, telemetry, or model behavior. It therefore does not establish that all user data stays on-device, that no data is transmitted, or that the application has been independently security-audited. Treat privacy as a design claim from the creator, not a blanket guarantee.

What the article leaves unanswered
The project article does not provide hardware or operating-system requirements, performance benchmarks, accuracy measurements, or measured learning outcomes. It also does not specify the exact model variant, supported note formats beyond lecture notes, or whether generated answers are tied back to source passages. Those details matter when deciding whether the tool fits a particular course or machine, but they cannot be inferred from the stack list alone.
