The best-supported public answer is OBS Studio. In a Twitch stream with Kevin Hart, Kai Cenat reportedly pointed to OBS and said, “Okay look, this is OBS, this is where everything is running, okay?” That supports OBS as his main documented streaming software, but it does not establish every tool he uses across regular streams or events.
What the public evidence says about Kai’s setup
StreamYard’s report reproduces the on-air statement and identifies OBS as the core of Kai Cenat’s setup. Because the statement is relayed through reporting rather than an authoritative inventory from Kai, it is best treated as evidence of his main documented software—not a complete list of his production tools.
The available sources do not confirm that Streamlabs Desktop is part of his regular stack, nor do they establish that he never uses it in other workflows.
How his Streamer University event workflow differed
A transcript of the Streamer University 2026 opening ceremony describes a specific production workflow involving TVU Go for streaming from a phone, IRL Toolkit as a control center and video switcher, Cloud OBS, and a desktop OBS feed. The transcript describes switching between the TVU Go and desktop OBS feeds without ending the stream.

- 15 Customizable LCD Keys: instantly control your apps, tools and platforms.
- One-Touch Operation: trigger single or multiple actions, launch social posts, adjust audio, mute mic, turn on lights, and much more.

This documents that event’s production, not Kai’s permanent everyday setup. It shows why a complex live event may involve several connected tools even when OBS is the clearest answer for an individual creator’s core streaming software.
OBS Studio and Streamlabs: what the names mean
OBS Studio is free, open-source software distributed under GPLv2, according to OBS. Its official download has no watermark or usage restrictions; OBS advises downloading it from obsproject.com.

Streamlabs says its desktop product is built on the OBS engine. It also offers a separate plugin that brings some Streamlabs tools, including alerts and widgets, into OBS. That explains how the products can coexist, but it is not evidence that Kai uses Streamlabs.
Choosing software for your own stream
Kai’s reported setup is a clue, not a requirement. Choose based on what you need to produce:

- Phone or IRL segments: consider whether your setup needs a mobile-to-desktop handoff or a separate switching tool. The Streamer University transcript describes such a handoff for that event.
- Alerts and widgets: Streamlabs describes both its desktop product and an OBS plugin for adding some Streamlabs tools. Decide whether those integrated extras matter to your workflow.
- Console gameplay: a capture device may be needed, depending on the console and connection method. Streamlabs’ console guidance discusses capture devices as an option; the available sources do not associate a specific device—or any capture card—with Kai.
What to check if OBS drops frames
OBS’s help material identifies an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain as causes to check when frames are dropped. Test the stability of your connection and whether your configured bitrate is within its capacity; lowering the bitrate may help if the connection cannot sustain it.
