What does Steam Frame Verified mean?
Verified is Valve’s strongest compatibility result for games running in standalone mode on Steam Frame: the game passes the review checks without players needing to configure anything to access its full functionality. The label summarizes an expected out-of-box experience; it is not a guarantee for every graphics setting, every scene, or every individual setup.

Valve says a compatibility result affects how a game is presented, not whether it is available to customers on Frame. The four outcomes are:

| Playable | The game functions, but may require manual setup, such as a controller configuration, opening the on-screen keyboard, or changing settings to meet performance requirements. |
| Unsupported | The game does not function because of Proton or a specific hardware incompatibility. |
| Unknown | The game has not completed review, so its Steam Frame experience is not established by a rating. |

What does the review check?
Valve says the Standalone Verified program assesses the experience customers get out of the box. The checklist applies to both VR and non-VR games and covers the following:
- Performance: The default graphics configuration must meet Valve’s stated minimum performance criterion.
- Display and interface: Text and UI must be clear and legible on Steam Frame’s built-in display.
- Controls: The default controller configuration must work well with Steam Frame Controllers and provide access to all game content without requiring players to enable controller support through in-game settings.
- Input labels: When using Frame’s physical controls, on-screen button glyphs should match Frame or supported Xbox 360/One button names; inactive mouse-and-keyboard glyphs should not appear.
- Launch and compatibility: Any launcher must be controller-navigable, the game must not warn that Frame hardware or software is unsupported, and Proton-specific blocking bugs or performance problems can result in an Unsupported rating.
What performance numbers does Verified use?
Valve’s 2026 documentation gives different minimums for 2D and VR games. These are review thresholds, not independent benchmark results or promises that a game will hold the same frame rate in every scene or setting.

The figures describe what Valve evaluates for the rating. They should not be read as typical third-party test results or as a guarantee that all titles will sustain those figures under all conditions.

No. The review applies to games running locally on Steam Frame, not games running on a PC and streamed to the headset. Valve’s Steamworks documentation states: “This process only applies for games (both 2D and VR) running locally on Steam Frame, not games running on a PC streamed to Frame.” Valve’s Steamworks compatibility documentation.

Valve describes Steam Frame as designed primarily for PC streaming while also supporting standalone games. Its product page describes a dedicated 6 GHz wireless adapter and dual radios intended to support a stable streaming connection; those design details are not a performance guarantee for a particular network or session. Valve describes Steam Frame Controllers as tracked VR controllers with capacitive finger tracking alongside familiar gamepad inputs: a D-pad, ABXY buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and bumpers. Valve says they are backwards compatible with the SteamVR catalog. Those product claims do not replace the game-by-game review: the compatibility check still considers whether each game’s default control setup works well with Frame controls.

How to use the label when choosing a game
- For local play, treat Verified as a useful signal that default setup, controls, readability, and Valve’s minimum performance checks passed.
- If a game is Playable, expect that it may work after a manual adjustment rather than immediately with the default setup.
- If a game is Unknown, the label means review is incomplete, not that the game has been found incompatible.
- For PC streaming, do not use the standalone rating to infer stream quality; the review does not evaluate that mode.
