Skydance Corporation announced that it completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6, 2026, after required regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. The combined company is named Skydance. Its portfolio includes film studios, streaming services, television and cable assets, sports, and franchises including Harry Potter. Skydance’s closing announcement describes the corporate transaction, not a change to Hogwarts Legacy 2.

The earlier merger announcement, dated February 27, 2026, described plans to maintain both studios, attract and retain creative talent, expand content supply, and combine direct-to-consumer businesses. It also set a company-wide target of more than $6 billion in synergies. Those are broad business plans and a financial target—not a stated budget cut, investment, staffing plan, or savings target for this game. The merger announcement does not specify a Hogwarts Legacy 2 decision.

What is confirmed about Hogwarts Legacy 2
Warner Bros. Discovery’s February 27, 2025 shareholder letter identified “the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy” in its Games pipeline. The letter says: “We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.” The shareholder letter establishes that the publisher publicly named a sequel installment in its pipeline before the acquisition closed.

That pipeline reference does not disclose a launch date, platforms, developer assignment, story, budget, or current production status. Nor does it say that ownership has changed any of those things. A Windows Central report dated August 13, 2026 repeats the shareholder-letter reference; its suggestion that a reveal could come in 2027 or 2028 is the author’s speculation, not a company-announced schedule.

For meaningful updates, look for a direct announcement from Skydance or the game’s publisher that names Hogwarts Legacy 2 and specifies what has changed. Corporate statements about strategy, synergy targets, or the wider Harry Potter franchise should not be treated as confirmation of the sequel’s budget, schedule, platforms, or content.
