Samsung Wallet combines contactless payments, Samsung Pass sign-in credentials, loyalty cards, tickets, selected IDs, and compatible digital keys in one app. Which features you can use depends on your Galaxy device, country, and participating banks and other partners, so check support for each item before relying on your phone instead of a physical card, ID, or key.
What is Samsung Wallet?
Samsung Wallet is Samsung’s hub for payment cards and other digital items. It brings together Samsung Pay’s payment features and Samsung Pass functionality with supported passes, IDs, and keys. Samsung describes it as a place to store and use cards, passes, and digital keys (Samsung Wallet product page).

Wallet availability is not the same as feature availability: Samsung says the app supports devices running Android 9 or later, but particular features also depend on the device, country or region, carrier, firmware, and partner (Samsung Wallet FAQ). Confirm the specific feature you want in your local Wallet app and with the relevant bank, airline, vehicle maker, lock maker, or identity provider.

What can you store and use in Samsung Wallet?
Payment cards
Samsung Pay in Wallet supports contactless payments with eligible cards from participating banks. To pay, authenticate on a supported phone or watch and use it at a contactless terminal. Card eligibility depends on the issuer and market; a card’s network logo alone does not guarantee it can be added. Check Samsung’s current local compatibility information and your bank’s instructions (Samsung Wallet product page).

Samsung also supports payment cards on select Galaxy Watch models and features; its product materials identify Galaxy Watch6 devices or later for this limited watch support. Do not assume that every watch, card, or Wallet feature works on a wearable (Samsung Wallet product page; Samsung Wallet FAQ).
Samsung Pass sign-in credentials
Samsung Pass functionality is integrated into Wallet. It can use biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint, to access credentials for supported services. It is not a universal password manager: a website or app must support the relevant Samsung Pass sign-in flow (Samsung Wallet product page).

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

Loyalty, membership, and gift cards
Wallet can hold supported loyalty, membership, and gift cards. Whether a particular card can be added, synchronized, or scanned at checkout depends on its issuer and the formats available in your market. Check the retailer’s instructions rather than assuming every store card is supported (Samsung Wallet product page).

Tickets and boarding passes
After checking in, you may be able to add a boarding pass directly from a participating airline’s app or website. Samsung’s US FAQ also describes importing a screenshot or PDF, or scanning a QR code or barcode when a direct add option is unavailable. Open the saved pass and make sure its barcode is readable before travel. Airline support and live flight updates depend on the partner and the pass type (Samsung Wallet FAQ).

A boarding pass is not an identity document. Samsung says travelers still need to carry and present identification separately during boarding; follow the airline, airport, and government requirements for your trip (Samsung Wallet FAQ).
Selected IDs
Digital ID support is limited by issuer and jurisdiction. Samsung’s US product information says mobile driver’s licenses are for TSA identification purposes for Arizona and Iowa residents at select airports and checkpoints, and do not replace the physical license. Student and company IDs are available only through participating institutions and partners (Samsung Wallet product page).

In an announcement dated May 26, 2026, Samsung said US passport holders could add a passport-backed Samsung ID with CLEAR for identity verification at more than 250 TSA checkpoints. Samsung notes that participation and acceptance are subject to TSA and participating-airport discretion, and that a boarding pass may still be required. Check current TSA and airport guidance before travel; the announced reach is not a guarantee that every checkpoint will accept the ID (Samsung Electronics America announcement).

Wallet supports digital keys for selected vehicles and compatible SmartThings-connected door locks. NFC implementations generally require tapping the phone at a compatible reader; UWB implementations can support proximity-based interaction when both the phone and vehicle support it. Enrollment steps and compatibility vary by phone, product model, partner, and region (Samsung Canada digital-key support; Samsung Wallet product page).

How do you add a card or pass?
Add a payment card
- Open Samsung Wallet on a supported Galaxy device and choose the option to add a payment card.
- Enter or scan the card details, then follow the prompts to verify it with the issuing bank. The issuer’s authentication process is required.
- Use the card only after Wallet shows it as ready for payment. If the card is unavailable or enrollment is rejected, check whether the issuer and card are supported in your market instead of repeatedly trying the same enrollment (Samsung Wallet product page).
Add a boarding pass
- Check in with the airline first.
- If the airline offers an Add to Samsung Wallet option in its app or website, use it and follow the prompts.
- If direct adding is unavailable, use Wallet’s supported import method for a screenshot or PDF, or scan the pass’s QR code or barcode.
- Open the saved pass and check that the barcode is visible and legible. Keep the required travel ID with you separately (Samsung Wallet FAQ).
Set up a digital key
Start in the supported vehicle or lock maker’s enrollment workflow and follow its instructions to add the key to Wallet. Before depending on it, confirm that the exact phone and vehicle or lock appear on current compatibility information, then test unlocking and entry while keeping the manufacturer’s recommended backup method available (Samsung Canada digital-key support).
How to check whether your phone supports a feature
- Confirm your Galaxy phone model and Android version. Android 9 or later is Samsung’s stated app minimum, not a promise that every Wallet feature works on every qualifying device (Samsung Wallet FAQ).
- Check that your device firmware, carrier, and country or region are supported for the specific feature.
- For payments, verify both the card and issuer; for passes and IDs, verify the airline, institution, or issuing authority; for keys, verify the exact vehicle or lock model and phone.
- When replacing a phone, Samsung says Wallet data can be transferred with Smart Switch, but payment cards previously registered need to be activated again on the new device (Samsung Wallet FAQ).
What security protections does Samsung describe?
Samsung says Wallet is protected by Samsung Knox and describes encryption and on-device storage for payment cards. Its launch materials also described fingerprint recognition and an embedded Secure Element that holds certain sensitive items in an isolated environment (Samsung Global Newsroom, June 16, 2022). These are Samsung’s descriptions of its safeguards, not a guarantee that every type of Wallet data is handled identically or that risk is impossible.
Use a strong screen lock, keep device software current, and know how to use Samsung account and device recovery options. If your phone is lost, use the available account and device protections promptly.
When should you keep a physical backup?
Keep a physical payment card available if your bank or card is not confirmed as supported, and carry required identification for travel even when a digital ID is available. For vehicle and door access, retain the backup entry method until you have tested the digital key and know how the manufacturer handles a dead battery, phone loss, or connection problem. Wallet can reduce what you need to carry, but partner and location limits mean it should not be treated as a universal replacement for physical credentials.
